About Me:

My 5 year old daughter has been diagnosed with segmental vitiligo. We have seen many dermatologists and tried various treatments with no results. We are part of a wonderful support group in Sydney, Australia & are always interested in other people's stories. Up until now our daugter has been quite comfortable with her vitiligo which she calls her pattern but as other adults & children comment on her face, she has begun to say things like "i want my pattern to go away, i hate the way my face looks, i just wish i was normal" etc. We have always been very positive about her vitiligo & help her to tell people who ask what it is, but its becoming heartbreaking to hear her say things like that about herself at such a young age.

  • HELLO AND WELCOME TO VITILIGO FRIENDS!!!
  • Hi Ann !!! :) :) I started off with the 0.1% Protopic. I used it for vitiligo on my ears, near nostril and lip. On my ears, most of the vitiligo is now brown again. Nostril, more resistant, but not spreading, at least. Lips too.

May be because your daughter is very young, she was given a lower strength at first. I was happy to read that you noticed slight repigmentation. May be with the 0.1% - you will see even better results. Go for the ointment, and not the cream. I have heard ointment is better. If possible, take her out in the early morning sun. Before 08.00 is what my doc said to me.

Many in this group take vitamin B12 - 1000 mcg a day + Folic Acid 800 mcg a day. I too. May be you can give it a try. Good luck !!! Take care !!!

  • Hello and Welcome !!! Glad you are here !!!! :) :) :) Have you tried Protopic ( Tacrolimus ) Ointment for your daughter's vitiligo on the face ??
  • Welcome to vitiligo friends!!!  My 9 year old son was diagnosed with vitiligo last summer.  I agree it is heartbreaking and so frustrating that there is so little you can do.  You will find a great deal of support here!
