Hi I'm Cyndy and I've lived with vitiligo since I was 8 years old and I'm now 54! I did trisoralen treatment with sunlight in my early 20's which repigmented the areas that were then on my knees and ankles. However, after pregnancy (which the dermatologist said created stress) theses areas lost pigment and new ones were created on my hands, wrists, and elbows. Last summer I had micropigmentation done on one of my knees and ankles and it looks pretty good actually. I have contacted the person in Cary who does this to do my other leg or I'm thinking about a tattoo on the ankle with micro on the knee. This skin condition is definitely not understood nor is anyone empathetic except those of us who have it. Have any of you had any treatment that has worked for you? I can't believe that I have found a site that talks about vitiligo. I have suffered for years and felt so alone! One with vitiligo never knows when a new "spot" is going to appear and that is disheartening!

I was reading that most people with vitiligo also have problems with anxiety/stress. Mine is definitely brought on by stress whether pregnancy or life stresses. I have been out of work since February due to job, family, personal problems. My vitiligo seems to find new spots every day.
Recently I saw something on the internet about someone who was tattooing their viltiligo. I had my ankle done for my birthday in April and I have to say I really like it. Not only does it cover the vitiligo but I like tats!! Dont' know how the ink will hold up because I had a knee and an ankle done with micropigmentation (done to match your skin) last summer but it has already started fading and the vitiligo has spread some. I'm think this may have been due to the trauma that the skin took from the needles. Anyway, I wish someone would find a cure although I have read articles about vitamin deficiency that most vitiligo patients have. Who knows?
I have had Vitiligo for 30 years (I am now 60) and most of the time don't even remember that I have it. I work with young children who lovingly point to my hands and ask about it and I just say my skin came in different colors. My face has been a bit harder to deal with, but feel lucky that I can partially cover it up with make-up. The funny part is that I am now getting dark ("old age") spots in areas where I have no pigment. A truly interesting skin palette! What I worry about most is how to improve or make healthy my confused auto-immune system.
Just last week I purchased a topical treatment that I want to try. It's all natural. Figure it can't hurt! I get new "spots" daily especially since my life has been in such turmoil since February!
