About Me:
I am 54 years old (although a very young one) and have dealt with vitiligo since I was 8. The spots that I had for years were on my knees and ankles. In my early 20s, I took trisoralin orally and the knees completely repigmented and the knees partially repigmented although in a freckled pattern. However, after pregnancy the vitiligo took the pigment out of the ankles and knees and became bigger than before and spread to my hands and elbows. Dermatologists never have any help for me so last summer I visited a nurse who does micropigmentation. She usually only does nipples (for women who have had reconstructive surgery after a mastectomy), lips, eyebrows, and eyeliner for lids. She did not want to pigment my vitiligo but after convincing her that I did no have high expectations, she agreed. We did one leg.....knee and ankle. The ankle was very painful, was swollen, and I was afraid that I may get infection there. As it turned out, I did not get infection and the ankle could not be better. It perfectly matches my skin. The knee, however, is a few shades darker than the surrounding pigmented skin. I can't wait to see how the micropigmentation looks this summer. I have dark hair and have always tanned very easily although I try not to. I'm thinking about getting a regular tattoo on the other ankle and micro on the knee of the other leg. I don't know that the micropigmentation would work on my hands and wrists but may try this anyway just to see. I'm interested in any treatment that others have had and the success rate. Pics would be great!
