XTRAC Laser Light Therapy???

Emily's derm recommended this new laser treatment that they are getting in their office. She said it has had great results repigmenting skin.  She wants us to do twice a week treatment and says it's much safer that regular light treatment because it targets only the spots not the healthy skin.  Has anyone had any experience with it??  What are your opinions?  Would you try it on your child??

Thanks for you help, Amanda

  • If you are talking about eximer.phorah light , my son is starting today. He will be doing it twice a week. I am praying for a miracle.
  • I have been doing light treatments for 6 months and I am almost 100 percent - completely repigmented. I had big spotches on my neck. I have used many medicines and nothing helped like the light treatment. I would definitely reccomend light treatment!! I had amazing results where I thought I would never repigment. I also found a great dermatologist that did the light treatment, which is also very important.
    • Congratulations.

Can you pl share more details about the light treatment. I am guessing, this is done at a Derm's office. Name of the unit, # of trips to Derm etc. Thanks in advance.
    • Yes, it is done at a dermatologist office, but only a few dermatologist offer this XTRAC laser, you have to call around. And I was lucky enough also to find a really good dermatologist that actually cared and wanted to help my vitiligo!!! As a matter a fact, before I found this dermatologist, I saw two other dermatologist and they both didn't give me much hope and one of the derms had told me not to do light treamtments (but like I said, my options were becoming limited), the old derms just kept giving me Eildel and Steroids...which were not working very well and I had side effects from the Elidel. Then finally I found information on the XTRAC laser and there were only a few dermatologist in the area that offered it, luckily only 30 minutes from my house. So depending on the area you leave you may have to do some research on which dermatologist offers the XTRAC laser. It's also much safer, because it's not like phototherapy where there light your whole body, its a defined laser that only treats the white areas only.
    • Also, I want to note that some people are repigmented in 4 months or less. I think it depends on the person. My new spots repigmented more like 3- 4 months, and my older spots that were bigger took closer to 6 months!!
    • congradulations.
in the 6months, how many times a week did u go git this done (i'm guessing one hour visits)?
The only spotches u had were on your neck??
again, congrads... got any before and after pics???
    • Opps, I am also sorry I don't have any pictures. I just havent taken any!
    • I went two times a week and its been about six months. The visits were only about 15 minutes, but now only 5 min because I am basically repigmented. The majority of my spots were on my neck, I have a few on my leg, but you can barely see them. I also had a few on my face, which I did light treatment too and they went away in a few months. It's funny because as soon as I noticed a spot, we started light treatment immediately and the spots repigmented more quickly. Also, I noticed if one spot got left untreated not only would it depigment faster, but duplicate itself on the oppossite side of my body...weird huh? Neways, I am soo encouraged, I really thought my vit was going to get worse, but Thank Jesus...it got better!!!!! The light treatments are really expensive though and I do have some copayments that I make each office visit; but it really was my last hope, seeing that I had bad side effects from Eiledel and Protopic.
    • One point that really amazes me is the PERFECT symmetry exhibited. Just unbelievable. I thought about it many a time in the last 3 plus years.
  • well, trying this option depends on what u have tried till now. we r using protopic on leg. there is repigmentation but not full. i personally wud go ahead with what my derm suggest after some research. hope we find someone here who has tried this.
