Hi all!
My darling daughter, who I will refer to as DD, was diagnosed with vitiligo last year, at the age of 5. We saw two dermatologists. One said definitely vitiligo. The other said, maybe vit, maybe just a couple of hypo pigmented birthmarks. As her mother, I notice the changes in dd's spots and believe the initial diagnosis of vit to be most likely.
She has an elongated area of hypo pigmentation along her neck, running into her shoulder, and another more rounded on the back of her calf on the same side of her body, so I'm thinking it may be segmental, but who knows with this stuff.
A few things I have noticed and wanted to share. My husband and I have said since DD was a baby that she seemed to have a very robust immune system. When the rest of us, including her little sister may be sick for days with a virus, my DD would be sick for maybe a quarter of the time. Even now, she just rarely gets any sicknesses or viruses that everyone else gets. Just something we've noticed and thought I'd share.
Another thing, DD complains constantly of being itchy. When I ask where, she says all over. I don't know how to help. Her pediatrician was unconcerned. My DD also has Keratosis Pilaris and some of it is on the vit lesion on her neck, actually helping to mask it.
So I was wondering if anyone else's child complains of generalized itchiness. Also, where the spots are visible, has anyone tried self tanner or a skin dye? I was curious to know the results.
The docs we have visited have all wanted to take a wait and see approach, which I agree with. My DD barely notices anything now and no one else has said anything. My goal is to have as many days/years as possible of normalcy. :) Its not much of an issue now, hopefully it wont be, but if it is, we will tackle it when we need to!
Meanwhile though, I did start her on a multivitamin and I make sure she is outside quite a lot, loaded with sunscreen during the times when the sun is bright, and with none when the sun is mild. I feel as though the spots are less noticeable, and may be filling in with color a bit, since I've started paying attention to her sun exposure and since I started the vitamins, but it may be my imagination...
Anyway, thank you all for any feedback and I'm so sorry for everyone going through it as I know how hard it is. :)

We use Desodine cream for itching. Sometimes it seems like the itching starts like ezyma and then the ezyma turns into vitiligo and then the spots appear. My daughter itches but not all over. You also may want to try a zyrtec (kids dosage) which could help with allergic itching. We are also trying homeopathic vitamins
We have said the same thing about our son Pete. He get s sick very rarely and if he dows its is very brief !!! We are using natural lotions by someone called Wanakee Hill. I am trying to find out if anyone else out there has used or is using the same natural products...Please let me know.. It works great in certain areas,,good in some not at all in others ??!!
Thanks Gene, for your reply. I haven't heard of those lotions but will check that out online. It might be worth posting on the main page and see if you find anything there.
Weird about our kids' hyperactive immune system. Its nerve wracking, feeling like you're waiting for the other shoe to drop in terms of any other related autoimmune diseases. I'm new to this and trying to learn all I can so I know best how to help her.

what natural products are you using?
We have protopic and desodine creams (not natural) but they help some... I think. Plus a UVB Light
