From Brown Skin to White Skin?

I learned that out of the 1-2% that have vitiligo in the world's population that a small percentage of those people loose all of their pigment w/out the use of meds or creams. Has anyone on here naturally lost all of their pigment and is coping with their new color. When I lost all of my pigment I freaked out because it caught me by surprise. I spent so many years adjusting to my two toned skin and embraced my uniqueness...I just knew I was the baddest chick in the DC/MD/VA area with vit.  Due to stress, I quickly turned white and started having a new set of issues and worries.  Go figuar!

I realize that having no pigment has created a host of new personal concerns, questions, and comments.  Rather then explaining the obvious I now travel down memory lane explaining the mystery behind my unique look.  Im truely blessed and greatful don't get me wrong, but I really would love to connect with others who have went from brown skin to white skin like me.

  • I share natural depigmentation also. I am 95% or more depigmented. I will say it is easier to wear makeup this way but I miss being brown. We can't tan etc and I am sooooo pale. I try to use it in a positive way like a porcelin doll. And color spots can come back and go away. Mine have been doing that.
  • Hi Ciney!

I don't know. My vit spread quickly too over the last year (unemployed). I know that I'm going to depig eventually, when I get insurance. I'm about 75% depigged (I'm guessing). But I have spots that are my original color. It would be easier for me to get rid of the spots than to try and repig. However, as strange as it is, my face and my feet are depiging very very slowly. But the rest of my body has "faded to clear" with spots. I don't know what to do. Today I wear long sleeves and use makeup for the obvious areas, but I want to be one color. I must be in that percentage that depigs naturally. Might as well go all the way.
    • I totally understand! Its weird how the trasition takes place. I remember people asking me "What are those white spots?" and as I started to transition the questions were "What are those brown spots?" Go figuar! I guess it comes to a point were we all wish the vitiligo would just hurry up and do whatever its going to do. What kind of make up do you use????
    • Believe it or not. I try everything that promises to work. I've tried dermablend, but at that time I was trying to cover my chest area. Ruined my clothes! Recently I ordered Color Tratiton. I ordered the sample kits because they recommended that you mix colors to get your color. It dried rather quickly, it was too much trouble for me to bother with trying to get it to spread. Next I ordered Smart Cover sampler. I like the consistency but once again I had to mix to get my color. Last but not least, I ordered the sampler from Cover Mark. So far I love it. I get the coverage I want. I found my color. It works for me because my skin is really dry and my skin peels when the seasons change. Since using it I haven't needed a moisturizer and my face no longer peels or feels dry. Also they have a ton of colors, they don't come in the sampler but you may be able to request it. Happens that one of those in the sampler was perfect for me. I've been using the sample for about two weeks now and still have quite a bit left. I no longer try to cover my chest or neck but sometimes I tone down my hands so that I don't get so much attention. However, I will say that all three stayed on really well.
    • That’s awesome, Im glad you found a brand and color that works. Its hard trying to find the right color and then try to have it work for your skin type.

I remember when I was younger in elementary school, probably in 2nd or 3rd grade and my mom tried to get me to wear Derma Blend....lol. We were at the make-up counter and the lady wanted to find my color by putting it on my face. I knew I was destine to be SMART. I asked that woman and my mom "What’s the point because I can't cover my hands, knees, or feet?" OMG, I didn't realize that my mom could have gave me a spanking right there for being smart. And Im sure I was rolling my eyes and looking at them like they were crazy...lol.

I guess in my case I had had it since 3 so I didn't see a point. I started wearing beauty enhancement make up in 2006. I went to the MAC counter and asked the women to show me some eye shadows. I told her, if she could show me something I like then I would be a returning customer. I spent every bit of $300... SHOUT OUT TO MY GURL JENNIFER LEE @ M.A.C!

I love me some MAC and that’s all I use on my skin. The color seems to blend with my pale/fair/white skin..lol.
  • Hello Ciney, I can relate to you because this has happened to me. I was fair skinned, then my world went upside down. And I went along with it. My face has changed 3 times and no one can tell me why. The rest of my body is still 95% colorless. I went throught a lot and now I thank God for life, not color, beauty or material things.
Stop by Delaware Vitiligo Support and Awareness Group. Also we are have a workshop luncheon here in Delaware you are welcomed to come. email me at barbara2212@verizon.net for more information on the event.
    • Hello Barbara, thank you for your response and comments

Its crazy how the pigment can come and go. Many question has been asked about if once the pigment goes will it come back????? And your absolutely right, when looking at the bigger picture I’m sooooooo very blessed just to be alive and be an able body. I've pushed through so much throughout growing up when I felt like the odds were against me. Having Vitiligo was all I knew, so I saw it as my norm, whereas others didn't. People comment on my strength and the things I‘ve accomplished, but its all about ATTITUDE!

I will be sure to contact you about the Delaware VS & A. I think it will be good for me to attend.
  • I will let you know in a few months!!!! I have been naturally depigmenting for a while now and I feel like i will be totally white by the end of this year. I have the last year of progression in my pictures. This past school year has been very stressful. I am interested to see what the complete depigmentation will hold for me!!!! Right now I would say I am about 90% depigmented..........10% to go!!!!!!!!
    • Cara,
I am just curious, but how long have you been depigmenting your skin and is this something prescribed by a doctor? I have it and so does my aunt and all her color is gone like yours except for her face and she did not do any procedures her vitiligo just went very fast. I know she would be interested in getting the rest of the color left off her face. Thanks for any advice you give.

      Antuana
    • Hey Lady,

IM JUST LIKE YOUR AUNT! No Meds, Creams, or Pills has been used to make me depig. This is all a natural de pigmentation. I started loosing the remainder of my pigment in 2007 due to STRESS! (and they say its the number one killer...smh!)

Yeap, my issue is that it caught me by surprise. I've had vit since I was 3yrs old, so having vitiligo all my life is all I've ever known. Now I coping with being pale/fair/white skin. I heard that only a small percentage auctally loose all their pigment naturally.

BUT I was told that the cream that’s used is this ( I DID A COPY AND PASTE FROM AN E-MAIL SENT FROM MS LORRAINE ABOUT MS LINDA)

""""The cream that Linda uses to 'zap' her spots is the same cream we all use for depigmenting: monobenzyl ether of hydroquinone (monobenzone). In a 20% or greater strength, mixed by a compounding pharmacist.
I believe Linda depigmented naturally, but uses the monobenzone just to eliminate any spots of pigment ("freckles" or "brownies") that arise. Of course, that cream requires a prescription. Many people have posted on VSI about treating any spots that recur somewhere down the line, as I have also had to do on 2 occasions over the past 28 ? years.""""

I hope the information can help you. Its what Ms Lorraine told me that Ms Linds uses to zap her brown freckles.
