On occasion I have met other people with vitiligo and sometimes I try to be friends with them and ask them how long have they had their Vitiligo some will accept my friendship and others just speak and walk away I guess maybe they were still having a hard time dealing with their vitiligo.I have had Vitiligo for over 25 years now and I have learned too embrace it and accept it because God does not make no mistakes, Every little thing that happens too us happens for a reason, I once saw a man in a wheel chair he had no leggs and no arms so that put my Vitiligo in perspective and it made me realize that no matter what you and I are going thru there's always somebody doing much worst, Even though this man had no arms and leggs he had a big ol smile on his face because he said as long as he has God he has everything, I couldn't help but cry after hearing that

So the next time you cry about your Vitiligo think about this man and what he can't do compared too what you can do even with your Vitiligo

  • You know I was on the other end of this topic. I haven't noticed any other Vitiligans (i love that word, thanks Cawanda). There was a time when my brother and I was outside hanging out on the front porch. It was one of them Summer time in the LBC moments. I have no shirt on and just some shorts and my lil brother have on a tank top and shorts. We were hanging out when we noticed a mini van stopped and pulled over. The driver came over and talked to us, about how we shouldn't worry about being spotted. She married with 3 kids, she continue talking about how things will always be great just as long as you let it be so. It was fun and a life learning experience, after a brief conversation my brother and I and along with the lady we ended up comparing spots. It was a memorable experience, to say the least. When I see a Vitiligans I will definitely stop and talk with them. :-)
  • Hey Carl, I also posted in Miguel's forum. I have only encountered two other people in my neighborhood with vit. They were not open to conversation at all.
    • Yes Pat I know what you mean, some people are so used to living in their own little shell, when you try to bring them out of it they refuse to leave :-)

  • Hi Carl, I posted the following comment on Miguel's forum, "how do we vitiligans confront othere vitiligans in public?
When I see someone with vitiligo, I stop and talk to them. I show them my vitiligo and say, "I have vitiligo too". It is like meeting a friend. We will usually talk for at least 5 minutes or so briefly discussing vitiligo. I have never approached anyone and they turned me away or were offended. We vitiligans have a connection with one another!!!!!!!!!!!!! I encourage everyone to do the same. This is a subject I will be coming back to! Thank you for posting this question! There so much more I can do!

Carl, I agree with you - we have to be thankful for what we have and what we can do! Vitiligo is not life limiting!
    • I'm like you Cawanda,When I see somebody with Vitiligo.I stop and talk to them and I say the same thing"I have Vitiligo just like you and then I ask how long have you had yours ????? It's like meeting another person from some kind of special secret club that you both belong too...........lol, I had one incident where a person was so ashamed about their Vitiligo that they didn't even want to see another person with it, and I will never forget that, But everybody else I met they stopped and talked and we had a good conversation if only for a few minutes, But Cawanda I'm really suprised about the amount of people who don't have access to a computer because I want them too know about this site and the Vitiligo site because it can give them information or resources about our condition.
