I'm gonna chime in with Kevin here, and say that everything he said is 100% correct.
I would like to add, though that vitiligo is often seen alongside thyroid problems...so much so that if you have vitiligo, (especially active vitiligo as I did), you absolutely must get your thyroid checked (as well as your adrenals and cortisol levels.
Low cortisol levels and adrenal fatigue causes low stomach acid, which contributes to leaky gut. This is what I have. Low cortisol levels have also been linked to vitiligo. If you have an underlying thyroid problem that goes untreated, nothing you do to treat your vit will work. As soon as I started taking natural thyroid replacement (along with an alkaline diet, NO dairy or gluten, NO grains, vitamins, and fermented foods) my vitiligo stopped spreading.
Also - very important- vitiligo and celiac disease share the same gene, NALP1. This means that if you have vitiligo, you should NOT be eating ANY gluten. Gluten should be considered a dangerous food if you have vitiligo. It is completely possible to have celiac and not know it...or to have non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS).
Lots of green veggies in juices or slightly steamed. Im thinking moderate intake of other veggies like carrots n anything else high in sugars so carful with fruit too. Fermented foods are excellent because they contain beneficial bacteria for digestion which is pretty much the key to good health so anything to help digestion is always good. Examples are probiotics and prebiotics, digestive enzymes, vitamins and minerals, apple cider vinegar, essential fatty acids, glutamine, aloe, there is so much we can do! Start by makig sure your making enough stomach acid (apple cidervinegar can help with this) and work on healing for the gut. Id say lighter on protein till we feel the gut is healthier and protein digestion is optimal.
have you seen great progress kevin ? i am a bodybuilder i eat protein and a ton of whole foods like sweet potatoes , moose steak , chicken and fish , i do eat my greens tho but I'm worried if i cut back and eat just greens to try and heal my gut i will loose a lot of muscle. any suggestions? could meats be bad for vit ? i read that red meats could be.
Ive seen no progress to be honest but its because i have not started doing anything. I know alot but haven't done anything about it except learn. I have read red meats can be bad to but it depends on the meat if its grass fed like it should be or grain fed with hormones and junk. Also protein digestion is critical because if we arent breaking them all the way down into the amino acids like there supposed to be, the incompletely digestion proteins or peptides should i say get into the blood via faulty digestion and that is never supposed to happen as it will make your immune system hyper active and easily causes autoimmune response. So yes it can be bad but as long as you focus on digestion and protein digestion, you should be ok. Definitely take digestive enzymes especially "protease" enzymes becaise they are specifically for protein.. for protein tho id recommend whey and egg if you can tolerate them as there the best and protein really is mega important.
I just want to point out aswell that when we are in a katabolic state or breakdown state like anyone whi has a disease, , working outintensely can exacerbate the problem. You should listen to the bright side. Its a radio show with pharmacist ben fuchs and the guy knows health at the cellular level and when it comes to disease, ,, ALL diseases are cell diseases. He dont talk about vitiligo much but it doesnt matter the flavor of disease as they all happen for really the same reasons its crazy. Ill get back to you with more info when i got time bit just listen to that guy talk man its pretty crazy.
thanks a lot man info is great . i take digestive enzymes already , and i don't pound too much at one time which is really good too, i have stable vit it comes and goes i just have a huge spots on my forehead and arms that won't go , i use uvb plus pro topic, it has worked well but the progression has stopped but i want to try more nutrition with it as well. maybe thats why my results vary is dependant on what i have eaten in the last week.
