I am glad that the Today Show aired this segment about Darcel. They showed photos of her as a child and a young teen going through the condition that was good. She is a beautiful young lady and has had to bear so much with vitiligo.
The show presented vitiligo as basically turning people from black to pure white. It may do that for a few, but for most of us, that's not our experience with it. I think the doctor should have pointed out that it affects each person very differently, and that mostly it causes white patches and spots. The message people out there need to get is that if you see a person with this, you know you're looking at a healthy person with a mild skin condition that's not contagious, not painful, and not malignant, so no need to stare or ask weird questions.
I just saw this post for the first time and just realized that Darcel has just joined our group and will be our speaker at the next worldwide meetup. I am so excited.
I saw a quick segment about her on entertainment tonight, probably the day before and I was so touched by her and her story. I'm so happy to see her on the today show, getting awareness out there is so important and that really means alot. I love it!
At least now some people would be more educated about vitiligo and not treat people like it's a contagious disease. I always believed that Michael Jackson had vitiligo and always loved him for his honesty, but they are ignorant people out there that don't know anything or do not want to know anything about vitiligo and said nasty things about Michael saying that he wants to become white so he bleached his skin. Michael Jackson had vitiligo and he tried to cover up just like some of us do, because we are not so brave as to show it to the public who judged us differently. RIP Michael.

There are a lot of websites that tells you they have the "cure" for vitiligo. I've tried a few of them. I didn't see any improvement but what may work for you may not work for me. Currently I'm using this product from MerryClinic. It's all herbal and I saw some pigment returning on my vitiligo. Its a combination of capsule and oil. Just check it out and dont lose hope and God Bless.
