  • I think I finally reached a point of understanding with Michael Jackson and his lack of advocacy for vitiligo. It happened when I heard Will You Be There this morning. Some of the lyrics are:

    ----------------------------------------------------------
    Everyone’s taking control of me
    Seems that the world's
    Got a role for me
    I’m so confused
    Will you show to me
    You’ll be there for me
And care enough to bear me

    ...

    But they told me
    A man should be faithful
    And walk when not able
    And fight till the end
    But I'm only human
    -----------------------------

So maybe he didn't fill the role we wanted him to fill. Maybe we were asking too much. He had super talent but he was not superman. He was, as he says in the song, only human.

And despite this, he asks, will you be there?

Paul Poundstone, the comedian, made an excellent point on a radio show. She said: "the time to love someone is when they are alive." We asked a lot of him but how much did we give?
  • I wish he was more involved in the vitiligo research and advocacy while alive. Hopefully his family will take up the cause. RIP Michael, we love you always.
    • I have to say, i love him but i truly wish he had done more as far as making vitiligo more known. With his celebrity he could have done something instead of just letting people know he had it. I feel like he kinda let us down in that way:(
      • Hey Amy I feel the same way as you do. I love his music and he will be missed. Sad to say vitiligo is just like the other diseases or skin conditions in the world........under funded. Maybe we need a national vitiligo month. During that time we can do what we can in our own neighborhood to help inform the public about vitiligo. We have other celebrities and athletes that have the disorder. Here is the link to some I have found that has the disorder.

        • Thanks for posting this link!
      • I know what you mean, and I feel this way about most of the 'celebrities' I can think of with vitiligo! They have the chance to use their standing to raise awareness but seem instead to hide it away. Although, seeing as I try to hide mine, maybe I shouldn't be so harsh!
      • Hi Amy, My first day on here and I like what I see. Browsing and enjoying all of you guys. Where have you been all my VIT life!
  • its lovely how everyone forgets all the little things when someone dies. you know, all those little things... like raping babies.

anyways im happy he is dead. despite idolizing him as a child, its a good thing for the vitiligo community. everyone will be talking about micheal jacksons life and how he turned white. this will raise vitiligo awareness.

    good riddance though... damned pedophile.
    • Alex I respect the fact you have an opinion but how can you be so mean? There are a lot of people on here that liked him and are hurt over his death. I followed his trial and I don't remember seeing you there to take the stand since you have this proof that he did that to children. You say he rape babies why did you not testify against him? I mean you do have proof to back up what you just said right? If yes well you are just as guility for letting him go free. If no then all of you that think the same way as you, need to stop. I may be wrong but I thought this site was to help each other deal with vitiligo. We may have our own personal opinions when it comes to M.J. but unless you are talking about his vitiligo then all this other stuff needs to be left alone. What's done is done the man is gone. You thought he was good at one time why not give him the benefit of the doubt. Regardless what we feel about him he was created by the same God as you. You are still a handsome young man even though you think you are not but your heart is so cold ( you speak or write what your heart feels) and you don't care what you say or how it make other people feel. You can say what you wish in return it don't matter. We all need to treat people as we wish to be treated. Alex I wish you the best in life , I really do and I hope you find the best treatment possible for your vitiligo until a cure is found. God Bless.
      • call me mean, cold, pessimistic... whatever you want.

just dont say im 'created' by god please. i despise that attitude. keep your absurd beliefs to yourself. thanks.
