So, I'm in the middle of what are normally the three busiest weeks of the year for my job. Tomorrow a large conference event I run takes place, so I'm in Washington, DC, running around trying to get everything taken care of.
But every chance I've had I've turned on the TV or read news stories on my cell phone, hoping that somebody would take the opportunity to talk about Vitiligo and the likelihood that Michael Jackson actually had Vitiligo and that it would possibly explain the bleaching of his skin... that somebody would actually understand how debilitating Vitiligo can be, take this aspect of his life seriously, and acknowledge the pain that Michael and others with Vitiligo go through. I know there are many other controversial things to talk about regarding MJ, but I have *not once* heard the word Vitiligo mentioned in any story today--a story which could actually have substance and help others. How can that be?
I'm wondering if NVFI and/or any other organizations related to Vitiligo have issued or might consider issuing a press release at this time, at least giving some basic information about Vitiligo and shedding some light on what those with Vitiligo go through. I just did a Google search and it appears that MJ announced on Oprah that he had Vitiligo--seems like this would be a good story for her. Anyone have any connections?

Saw and heard reports today that Deepak Chopra has been talking about Michael Jackson's Vitiligo, Lupus, and other serious illnesses, in a very thoughtful way. Thank goodness.
Anthony, I agree with you. Michael Jackson had the power to bring anything to awareness. I never really understood why he didn’t do anything for vitiligo awareness or even donate to research.
"So when his image began to crumble, becoming twisted and disturbed, that aspect, too, was larger than life. His multiple plastic surgeries and his vitiligo illness, which saw him transform from a masculine looking black man to a wispy, pale-faced, almost noseless figure, was held up as the standard for bad plastic surgery, a freakish-looking character."
They should be shot for this. They have no consideration.
I know, they are saying he used drugs and that is what killed him, instead of seeing him for the legend he was and trying to help others they be so negative. There are so many young people who feel so alone with vitiligo and comtemplate sucide, that alone should be a light to make this disease known! It does make me angry also, i think it is about time that vitiligo become loud in the media just like other sickness in the world. Maybe we can all come together and somehow get it out there. Steve you wouldn't be able to somehow set up that video chat linked someway to the news and we talk about it? If that made sence, what i just said.:)
Yes, it makes a lot of sense, but I'm in 24x7 crazy busy for the next six days... Ugh. If someone will go to http://www.elluminate.com and click on on the training link on the left and then watch the "moderator training" for version 9, I can set a room up and let someone else run it. Sunday I might be able to find some time as well... it is important.
