Hello everyone!

I'm in my last year of journalism studies at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. One of the classes I'm taking is Photojournalism. I have a really important project to hand in (worth 40 per cent) that has to document life in some way. I really want to document the reality of vitiligo.

When I brought up the fact that I have vitiligo in my Magazine Writing class last May, no one knew what I was talking about. So, I honestly think using multimedia (photos, audio and video) could raise awareness about our disease.

Now, if any of you reading this discussion lives in Montreal and has vitiligo (or knows someone in Montreal who has vitiligo), and would like to be part of my Photojournalism project, please contact me as soon as possible. You can reply directly to this discussion or send me a personal message.

Any help is good help.

Thanks a lot,

Jennifer

  • I plan to do a write up and send to your email, the emotional pain vit causes to the family members (parents and siblings). Thanks.
  • Hi Jennifer,

If you like, I can send an announcement to my Canadian mailing list. What do you think?

    Yours truly,

    • Hi Audrey,

Thank you so much for your reply. That would be great. You can have them contact me at Jennifer.Freitas@hotmail.com

      • Hi Jennifer,
You're welcome! Too bad I'm in Chicago.

People will want to know where to meet you and what to expect. Some people may be interested but feel vulnerable. If they'll meet you at the the University that's good because they'll feel more comfortable especially if they have to change clothes to show the parts being photographed.

Could you write a a bit (a few lines maximum) about that? I'll use that plus your post here.

        Yours truly,

        Audrey
        • Hi Audrey,

Great you brought this up. Thank you.

The place of meeting is entirely up to the person. I want to meet the people in a place where they feel most comfortable. If that's in their house, that's fine. If it's at the university, that's fine, too.

I will only photograph the parts of the body they are comfortable showing, basically what society can see on a daily basis.

The second part of this project is the actual interview, to be either recorded or filmed.

Also, I'd require that the people bring photos of themselves before they had vitiligo.

          Regards,

          Jennifer
          • Hi Jennifer,

Ok, the email announcement was sent.

            • Hi Audrey,

Again, thank you for all your help.
