Has anyone been to a rheumatologist?

I went to my neurologist today for my diabetic neurothapy and he was asking about my vit and some how we got on my hair. He seemed concerned because it was thin, so he referred me to a rheumatologist and said that everything..vit, neurothapy, thinning hair could all be related.. He said they specialize in auto immune diseases. I have never thought to go this route but I feel like it could not hurt. I assumed to always go to a dermatologist maybe it's not a "skin" problem. Hmm I guess I will wait and see. Please share your thoughts and experiences. Thanks :)

  • Hi antuana, I just came across this old discussion and was wondering if you ever went to see a rheumatologist and if it was helpful? I tried once to get a ANA blood test to show it was autoimmune to get a referral, but my doctor flat out refused this! Thanks, jess
    • yes i went and he really did not help at all. He was telling me things I already knew. Unfortunately, it was a waste of time. It almost seemed as if he was not familiar with viti at all...oh well

      • Oh that's a shame it wasn't helpful :( I think we are all more familiar with vit than any specialist or doctor! Keep trying and don't give up hope !
  • Last year I had a low ANA count and I had to go to a rheumatologist. I was retested and I was fine. However I now I have borderline hyperthyroidism.
    • Did the doctor share any insight about your vit & the hyperthyroidism?
  • I think you have a good point, if it is an autoimmune disease that causes us to lose pigmentation, then a dermatologist can only do so much with the topical portion of the skin.
