Gluten free diet, getting my color back

So I have been on a 90-95% Gluten free diet for about 4 months now. After 10 years with Vitiligo and various Doctors (national and international) telling me that there was nothing they could do, my skin is regaining it's color back, right after I went on a Gluten free diet, coincidence? Here are my progress pics if you're interested.

I've only changed my diet, still using Tracolimus 0.1%.

  • I have an update, after months of waiting I finally got to see my allergist and it turns out I have a wheat intolerance (Not gluten, but they are pretty similar) specifically to (rye and oats). He pretty much told me to stick to the Paleo diet (which is gluten free). I will post pictures in the next couple of days, but my skin color is coming back dramatically! My dermatologist, suggested the same and they both think that the Vitiligo is caused by my body's rejection of these foods.

  • These foods seem to cause and inflammatory response.  Go to http://thewellnesswell.net to read information from Wannakee Hill's website.  I purchased her book that has a wealth of infomation in it include eating gluten free.

  • Thats amazing Sunny... I have had vitiligo for 10 years too and went Gluten Free for 3 months. Have started seeing slow progress from 1st month. Am following the same for my son now. I would like to discuss this further!
  • For all those interested, I decided to do the Paleo diet/lifestyle which includes eating meats, fruits and veggies. I have dropped everything else. Yes it was very hard for the first week, but I have been doing it for 4 months now and I don't miss any of the foods (rice, pasta, breads, etc). Once in a while I will treat myself to a goodie or gluten free meal (pasta, bread, etc) but I pretty much try to follow the above. I bought a book to help me stay on track with my meals, is called "everyday Paleo" and I have been cooking out of that. Good luck! I will continue to post pictures and update as I go along. By the way all I do is drink water, have dropped all other types of beverages (of course except for coffee :)
  • Hi,

can you tell me what's your diet exactly?

    Thanks

  • I'm gluten free too now, and also am taking a few supplements and I'm repigmenting like crazy for the amount of time that it's been.. good luck, hope it continues to work for you.
    • Kelly can u list the vitamins u taking? I tried B complex tablets. But progress was slow.
    • What is Gluten intolerance? I am African American and I have had Vitiligo for the pass 27 years my body is 95 % changed.  My face has changed 3 times and I do not take meds or anything.  I would like information if you have it so I can share with my support group.  You can email me at barbara2212@verizon.net anytime.

  • This is really interesting, thanks for posting and sharing the photos.  My daughter was diagnosed 4 months ago and we've been trying different things...I will look into this for her.
  • That is great really pleased for you. Have you been tested for gluten intolerance? I have but results were negative but I think I may go gluten free anyway as it has worked for lots of people
