So I left my makeup in the drawer of my desk at work today and i didnt have any back ups at home when i woke up for work this morning, I have been wearking makeup at my current job the whole time ive been there, so i know i have to call in with some excuse and find a place nearby that carrys dermablend, and there is none for quiete a few miles. This really sucks i hate having to cover this up, but i work in a professional enviroment and ive already established myself as this certain person and nobody knows what i look like without makeup. This really sucks, now time to drive a couple citys over to find some makeup, i'm just venting.

Vincent I understand. I have worked in a high profile job (now retired and teaching) I never used anything to cover. Now I did use sun block whenever outside to keep from tanning and creating more contrast. People would look or ask about the vitiligo it gave me a chance to educate those that have not seen it before.. most think that I was in a bad fire. I have had vitiligo since 5th grade. Sounds like there have been some good suggestions above.
Sorry to hear this. Like many people have already said, just buy several backup kits of makeup and keep them everywhere. I always keep some at home, at work, in my purse and in my car. That way, I know I will be able to touch up my makeup at any location that may be.
yeah i wish the makeup was a little cheaper, but i try and keep a backup at my desk now and it does help for emergencies, I have been getting comfortable with wearing makeup less now. On my youtube video I am not wearing makeup and 3 months ago i would have never done that, so i guess i am making some progress. Thanks Everybody.
A few things I have learned about people. They thrive on doubt and speculation about any person. Finding confidence and positive self esteem can help you see right past the vit. I had this self imposed boundary and let people control my participation in social events and work.
Once you can see that wall, tear it down and let yourself free. Free from the doubt of who you are, what you can do and who you love.If you give yourself permission to hurt yourself you allow anyone else to do the same.I believe we have the upper hand because we know the difference between pain and suffering, love and joy and being a good person.
Go to work and do your best!
Everyone is at different stages with the vitiligo acceptance. If you are able to walk out of the door without makeup, that is wonderful and I truly applaude your courage. I wear makeup on my face only. But as a woman, I would wear makeup without the vitiligo - a little anyway.
I show a lot of vitiligo and share my vitiligo with my coworkers, family and friends. I show my arms and it is now spreading to my hands. The make up just gives me courage. I went to dinner last evening with some friends. We had not seen each other since my vitiligo started progressing. I initiated the conversation and told them all about my vitiligo.
There are three main groups of people with vitiligo that I see. Those that are totally comfortable with it. Those that are in between. That is where I fit. I am comfortable but not. If that makes sense to you. And the third group are struggling with it. We have to support one another wherever we are in the acceptance of having vitiligo.
With this illness it is diverse and we deal with it in a diverse way!!!!!!!!!!! Peace and blessings!
I think you need to let people at work know about your problem. I mean do wear make-up but tell them so you don't feel awkward. I have been having the same problem but when I started talking about it I have been feeling much more relaxed.
thanks for the support everbody, I was close to just going out the door without makeup but i really didnt want to deal with the "what happened to your face?" questions today. but fortanetly i did find some good dermablend at the local JC Pennys and got a differint shade than I was using before. If i can say anything good about having vitiligo is i learned how to apply makeup like a professional hehe. I wear less makeup now when I am out with close friends. anways, thanks again for the support
yea, i agree with cawanda, i actually have three sets, one for home, work and purse, jijiijiji, in small sample containers that i request at the store when i purchase the makeup.....i know it sucks always having to worry if you have or dont have makeup, argh!!!!!! hang in there vincent....
I really feel for you! Vit sucks but hang in there mate cos I've a feeling that we might be able to conquer it in the coming few years! I really wish doctors/pharmaceutical companies could see vit as more than just a 'cosmetics problem'.
Whocares, you're totally right but it's really difficult not to care when living in this image obsessed society. I should know better but I just can't seem to help it....

I am just waiting for the spots to creep up or pop up on my face. I have thought a lot about that!
