Daughter recently diagnosed

Hello, my ten year old daughter was diagnosed about a month ago and, I hate to say it, but I am having a very difficult time. She doesn't realize exactly what the disease is, but I am sick with worry over her future. Hers began with a spot on her upper buttocks, which seems strange to me since she obviously doesn't get sun there. That spot grew to about 6 cm and now seems to have stopped. She also has a sport on her left knee which began from eczema, with some discoloration on that shin. There's another smaller spot under her right knee and that leg seems to have a couple tiny spots as well. Does anyone know the average percentage of affected skin for people with vitiligo? All the information just says progressive.

  • That's great Kathy. Hope it stays that way. I have heard that some people's vitiligo stays stable. Hope your daughter will be one of them.

  • Tynne,

Thank you so much for responding. I am so happy to hear that gingko has worked so well for your son. It'll be great if you can post some pictures.

  • If she has eczema and Viti she must stop eating all bread , rice , pasta , milk .

    • what does rice have to do with eczema? I think rice is one of the things they are supposed to or "allowed" to eat when a child has eczema

  • Hi Tynne,
I have a 7 years old daughter with Vitiligo.
I read all your posts. congratulations for the success your son has had with GB! I wanted to ask you if the progression of vitiligo completely stopped after taking GB?
    • It took about 12 weeks to see the spread stop and then shortly after that we noticed the repigmentation! YES!!!!

It was so exciting! I'm due to take more pictures of him so I will try to post the before and after to this point! The one thing that was consistent was the gingko- the UVB light helped, but I think just sunlight will get you a good start if the gingko is going to help. We were heading into fall when the repigmentation began and the worry that NO sun would not be beneficial we pushed to get the light and did!

Good luck to all who are struggling.

  • Hi Kathy,
Congratulations. So happy to hear about your daughter. What kind of treatment did you opt for or would you recommend anything?

    Sincerely
    Karina
    • Hi Karina,
Since my daughter's condition seems to be stable for now we are not using anything at all nor taking any supplements. We do realize it may flare up so I would think we'd go back to Protopic at that time. I am hoping that new drug they just found for gray hair shows promise.
I wish everyone here well. It is a great resource and great for support as well!

  • Hi
My daughter s also diagnosed last year she s 13 now.
How s yr daugther doing now?
I wsh that there was something that we could do to cure it.....
    • Hi, I am happy to say that my daughter's condition has seemed to stabilize. She still has halo moles on her upper chest and back and the spot on her tush is there but there aren't any new, significant spots. After living with this for a while I am realizing that maybe there are a lot of people who have a little bit of vitiligo. Maybe my daughter's will have periods of waxing and waning but I am way past worrying about it all the time.
How has your daughter's condition progressed?
