  • Hello Freddy! Hope all is well with you. I also used protopic with very little results. The Narrow Band UVB treatment has to be done three times a week (or at least two). It looks just like a tanning bed, except it's standing up. With NB-UVB treatment there's no need for any type of lotions or pills, just getting in the machine for the time the doctor sets. When I did the treatment, time was increased gradually. The results were magnificent, plus a great tan! No new spots develop for two years after I stop the treatment. But since I'm only 25 I also believe that the new spots have to do more with the condition than the lack of treatment (although that is definitely a factor), as right now I'm getting now (Working on that though!). From what I researched most health insurances cover the NB-UVB treatment, what changes is the amount of treatments allowed (again, from what I researched while selecting an insurance). PUBA treatment can be just as good. As with everything, it's different on each person. PUBA and NB-UVB treatment can be done with the same machine, the difference is in the lights used (not sure the lamp operates). When I performed PUBA (as it can be done with a small lamp, only on the spots instead of the whole body), Oxsoralen had to be applied first. Oxsoralen had to be diluted first and the doctor would determine (and dilute) the amount. There are also pills, but these can have very serious side effects, like liver damage, which is why even now that my vitiligo is getting progressively worse I refuse to take pills. This treatment worked slowly but surely on my body. Also, in between treatments, which were about twice a week, I would use Elidel, which has also worked slow but surely. Every treatment should be given I would say about six months, although you should see some progress before that. The only one that worked marvelously has been NB-UVB.
