About Me:

Sometimes I feel like I am the only one in the world with spots. I am 25 years old, and I got my first spot only 3 years ago. It has spread rapidly and now covers quite a bit of my body. I live in Arizona and yet I must avoid the sun, and I wear clothing that is better suited for the Arctic circle.... At first, I was diagnosed incorrectly, so for the first year and a half I was unknowingly treating a completely different skin disease. None of the treatments that I have tried since I discovered that I actually had vitiligo have worked. Plus, the treatments are time consuming and expensive. I have only had vitiligo for three years and I have not fully accepted it, but I am already sick of trying to get rid of it. I don't want to revolve my life around it. I recently spent 3 months in South America and although I wore long sleeves and never went swimming, I didn't let it hold me back and it felt good. I want the confidence to just wear short sleeves and not care if people look at me. I am working on it.

  • Hello Margaret, we are having a great summer. Good for you!! Keep it up. It feels good right?
  • Hello Margaret how is the summer going?
  • Margaret, I am doing well thank you!! How are you? I have been feeling very good in my skirts and 3/4 shirts. I am getting bolder and bolder! It feels so much better than being weighed down in hot clothes and looking out of place. I am wearing clothes that make me feel confident!
  • Hi Margaret!!
  • Its good that you start to focus on you're happiness and not on the vitiligo. There times that I don't let my wife or kids see me get sad or upset but there's times that I do and I say to my self why they didn't give me vitiligo. I love my family so much and I need to focus on my family not on the vitiligo. What I say to my self I could loss my family I still would have vitiligo. I hope that you will do more traveling its always great to me new people and see the beautiful places in the world the world is a big place.
  • Margaret,

I know how you feel I was diagnosed with vitiligo about 2 years ago. I went to the dermatologist and he told me I had vitiligo and there’s no cure. I was shocked I could not believe it. He gave me 2 creams one for my face and the rest of my body and one for my hands. Since I have tried many different treatments there been times that I feel alone. People that don’t have vitiligo don’t under stand. Just came back from Cancun we visited the Maya ruins Tulum and Chichen itza they where amazing. In youre picture its that Machu Picchu.
  • nice to meet you too, i'd like to get to know you better! do you feel sometimes as tho' it's not as much about what people actually think but how you view yourself through other people's eyes? i've had vit for years, but it's something that's extra hard to accept, because it's always changing.
so im curious what took you to south america?
  • Great for you! Take baby steps. I am wearing a skirt today at work for the first time. My legs are speckled. I am also wearing a 3/4 qtr. length shirt with my arms exposed. Oh well, I feel cute because I am. I try to think now about how I would dress without the vitiligo first versus me with vitiligo. TIRED OF THE LONG SLEEVES PERIOD!!! Take care!
  • HELLO AND WELCOME TO VITILIGO FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!! I am using jergens for fair skin on my spots. It tones down the whiteness. I went shopping for short sleeves and realized how cute I looked. I did buy two short sleeve shirts but have not worn yet. I have been wearing 3/4 quarter length shirts. This is probably what I will stick with for the summer. Not as hot with the long sleeves. Definitely not wearing those anymore. Time to more on one inch at a time. Welcome! Cawanda
  • i think i am at about the same point of acceptance as you... sometimes, it's easier than other times.... :)
