About Me:

Hi everyone, I’m Jimmy. I live in Jacksonville Florida and I've always spent as much time outdoors in the sun as I possibly could…and I still do. When I was about 35 I began noticing my side burn areas always seemed to be red then came the random white spots on my arms, then the spots on the shoulders and chest. I sought treatment and advice right away, and was diagnosed and given the “no treatment verdict”. It’s been 20 years since. I’m now 55 and it’s been a slow progression, and I’ve accepted it and learned to live with it, although if there were an alternative, I’d be one of the first in line. I’m very active in sports, an avid golfer, biker and love watersports and yes I always use sunscreen. I’ve been a dedicated power-lifter all of my life and If anyone at the gym is bothered by my spots……they never once mentioned it other than the occasional question and I’m happy to explain it and move on. I find, if I don’t make a big deal about it, neither will most other people. Honestly, I’m seriously considering switching to body-building and trying my hand at the competition at the senior level. For me, my condition exists but it doesn’t define me or who I am in the least. In the immortal words of Popeye the Sailor Man……”I yam what I yam.”

  • BELATED HELLO AND WELCOME TO VITILIGO FRIENDS!!

  • Hi Jimmy! I like vitiligo being called an inconvenience. In fact I will try to think of it this way from now on. Yes there are far worse illnesses people have in this world than what we have. Cancer being one of them. Already lost some family members to it, including one just recently. Children with cancer is indeed very sad and heart breaking. Take care, and hope you had a good weekend!

  • Hi Jimmy! Thank you for the reply! It seems you have enough problems on your shoulders and that vitiligo is the least of your worries! After all vitiligo ain't going to kill us! Still, it would be very nice if a cure is found. Hopefully soon! Be careful about the arthritis though! Got a cousin with osteoarthritis on both her knees.

  • You are most welcome !!! You seem to be handling your vitiligo well !!!! Take care and good luck !!!!
