Hi, what are the green tablets called and what do they do? I didn't know how you could tell the acidity level on the test strip was so high. Is there actually a number on the strip that you could tell? Maybe I need to get those. Has it brought the levels down with the water and green tablets? Here it is a different story. The sun is out all the time in the summer and where we live it is about 100 degrees average in the summer time. I try to get Noah out in the sun for at least 15 minutes a day with the novitil gel since it works with UV exposure. He also has a UVA light that we purchased from his dermatologist. We waited over a year for the insurance to finally approve to pay half the costs, since they say this is a cosmetic problem. But after enough pushing we finally did it! I just ordered two more bottles of novitil from a person who sells it in Hawaii. I have bought it from him before and he gives me a little bit of a deal over the dermabest website. It would be nice if they write to each other but, that is up to you. He doesn't know anyone w/ vit either. Ok I will keep you up to date with the progress and if you can do the same it would be greatly appreciated. Any new info is always helpful and worth a try. Has he gotten any freckles in his spots with the anti vit oil? Is he on a special diet? Ok, let me know. Talk to you soon! :)
Wow! How did you guys test his blood acidity levels? Was it through regular bloodwork? Noah needs to go in for a well check so maybe I will mention that to the dr. Have you noticed any improvement with the anti vit oil? Or with the water & green tea? I will get some info on the book and see if it might help us over here. Thanks! Hope all is well otherwise. We are back in school getting into routine :)
Hi Bruce! Well we are using the novitil and direct sunlight as of right now. We have also been going to see an acupuncturist for stress reduction. My son loves it! I think the novitil works better with natural sun over the UV light but, only time will tell for sure. I do see some freckling in the white areas and some have come together. I will wait until the end of the summer to see how much progress was made. I did take photos in the beginning. It's a great way to see if your making progress and also to detect if any new spots have come out that you haven't noticed before. I do have a cover up (dermablend) but most of the time he doesn't want to use anything and just says leave it who cares. Since he has had vit since the age of one I think it has become just part of who he is. Although, he knows he needs his vitamins, herbs, ect. Sometimes, I feel I am pushing him too much to put on his medicine. I feel as long as he is confident and happy with himself is really all that matters in the long run. does your son have any friends with vit? Does he get asked about it alot? My son gets mad when people ask him about it over and over but all his friends at school are pretty accepting. He starts a new school come August so we'll see how everything goes. Take care and talk to you soon.
Okay, I thought I kept the site on my computer and I am traveling on vacation. If you go to that site where you read it and look at my first posts on black pepper you will see where I recommend the site that I found. I just can't think of the name there. Hope this helps...
Hi Jenn. Edward (my ten year old son) has had Vit for a few years. We've tried Novitil and a UV lamp, and to be honest haven't seen a lasting change. We've ordered Anti Vitiligo oil, but it hasn't arrived yet. Not sure how long it takes to come across the Atlantic. We'll certainly let you know if we get any success. A question for you. Do you use any "cover-up" products on your son? I'm in two minds whether to give him a quick fix solution to hide the white patches, but am concerned that it's making a bigger deal in his mind. Anyway, we'll stay in touch. Rgds Bruce
Hi Bruce! Thought I'd stop by and drop you a line. We are new to the site and I saw that your son has vit and is only 10. My son also has vit. He is 11 yrs. It would be great to talk to you to see if you come up with something that works well on the children. My son has had vit since the age of 1 yr. We live in Ca. so the summer is the best time of the year to get him out in the sun. We are using the novitil and taking plenty of vitamins. He has also started acupuncture for stress reduction. Have you guys gotten any results with what you are doing now? Hope to hear from you soon :)
Thank you for your comments. I can't tell you how relieved I was to read your blog and discover that there really is hope for my son's Vitiligo.
The most interesting part of your blog related to dehydration. It has been a constant battle to get our son to drink, and ever since he was a baby, he's seemed to have had no appitite for either water or milk. I wonder whether this is the cause of his Vitiligo? Certainly all the areas he is white are the areas he usually sweats when he exercises, so it makes perfect sense. He's now under strict orders to drink a big glass of water at least twice a day and hopefully more.
Anyway, I've ordered Anti Viligo oil to suppliment the Dermbest and we'll apply it with care.
Thank you for taking the time to write and I promise to feedback the results my son enjoys in the comming months.
Hi Bruce,
I'm sorry to hear about the burn. Sounds frustrating. I remember some burning, itching, etc. that ended up being a part of a successful journey. I hope it will be for your son also. Most of my redness and burning came when I used Anti-Vitiligo oil. This is actually both good and bad. The redness and pigmentation came faster than w/ Dermbest. AVO has an herb w/ natural psoralens which make the skin respond much faster to UV and sun light. However, it has to be used very carefully. (I'll try not to repeat what is in Dr. Young's blog.) For kids, I think Novitil is safer but also slower. If your son already turned red, I would just use the light/sun with caution and for shorter periods to begin.
One thing to remember is that the pigment can be reawakened. If your son burned after 30 minutes, perhaps you could try 10. I never used lights. I always used the sun, mainly due to cost and convenience. I could not afford babysitters and co-pays.
My husband is of German decent and also must limit his time, but a little consistent light may go a long way. I hope this helps. For years I wore large rimmed hats and long-sleeved white shirts while in the sun. It took a lot for me to realize I was going to have to allow myself to get more light than before. Best, V.
