I have an 8 year old son who has vitiligo. He started about a month ago with feeling sick sometimes after he eats. He keeps saying that he feels like he is going to throw up. I haven't been able to pinpoint what it is. His pediatirician is having him take Zantac 75 twice a day to help with this, but he has been doing it for two weeks and it hasn't helped. I remembered reading on this website how some people with vitiligo have celiac disease. I just wanted to know for those of you who have vitiligo or have a child with vitiligo and celiac disease what symptoms did you have?
Thanks so much,
Amy

I am not sure (since I do not have Celiac), but I think you may need to test for Celiac before removing gluten, otherwise the test is not as accurate.. See the below:

yes thats right
also read emily's vitiligo by eric frikker. its available on the web for free. there are gluten free sections in every major supermarket or available online. theres definitely food allergies involved if he is having stomach issues so severe that he has to take medications.
@Amy Burns...why not try the gluten free diet before giving him zantac and all. I would strong suggest you read Susan Blum book 4 steps to Immune System Recovery. It's available in virtually every library.
I'm celiac and my symptoms were vomiting (sometimes blood in vomit), stomach cramps and diarrhea. I was diagnosed by an endoscopy, the doctor was convinced I had a stomach ulcer. A simple blood test is all you need now, I'm surprised your doctor hasn't already ordered the test.
I actually used to take a similar drug to Zantac called Omeprazole and I took it for 2 years preceding being diagnosed as Celiac, as I had terrible indigestion. Interestingly, I have seen a lot of research linking Stomach acid inhibitors to food allergies.
