I generally think and believe that of all we do to live with Vitilig having an extensive awareness campaign to educate he general public is of utmost importance. We come here and get all the encouragement and love we so desire and end up in the mdst of the ignorant public who doesnt really understand.
Can they really be blamed for their actions when they segregate or make nasty comment at the disfigured, when they have not been educated? Even as we are aware of how rude and embarrassing it can be to stare or stigmatise, we are still ignorant of so many others, we owe the general public Vitiligo eductaion and awareness to better and improve Quality of life of others.
I was told of a young lady who's really been through a lot, her Vitiligo is from her burst to her laps (completely depigmented), someone asked me when this lady finally meets with you, how are you going to help her? Yes I can do all I can from visiting, calling at all times and all, but will I be able to educate that man that may come into her life or will I be there the first time she will undress in front of him to manage her reactions and possible rejection?
If we set a day for theawareness globally while we work in our localities and indiviually, the word will get out there so fast.More people will be aware, more Vit persons will live a better and a meaningful life.
If you dont need it, please lets do it for our Vit Brothers and Sisters who are really going through a lot becasue of this condition. Its really not easy thing from this side of the World......

Lets have a day Pat, d day we are advocating and working for is June 25th and we are starting with June 25th 2011.
Whats ur plan in SA?
Hello I agree with Marty, there are awareness days for just about every cause and having one for vitiligo will be a first that I’m aware of and will support to the fullest. We all need to be on the Oprah show or something for global awareness because vitiligo can hit anyone at any age.
Agreed Renale, even if we dont get to Oprah, we can still get to our local TV stations and print media and collectively we will be reaching the World, like I always say Vitiligo is unfortunately the condition that doesnt attract people who are not distressed by it to champion its cause.
Its funny really cos we have some people living with Vitiligo who are seemed to be passionate about other causes, sometimes really (I hope I will be pardoned for writing this) I just feel that its d fund and less work in those causes that ignites their passion. Today I can say of any Grant giving organisation that has Skin Condition let alone Vitiligo on their list of causes they fund or support.
It's our CALL!
Ohhh Lucy I understand and I can really say that of you with ur dedication to Vitiligo Awareness in your own little way.
Truly Lucy we are sure working towards that for June 25th 2011, God helps us with funds, not planning anything big but an impactful event, I wrote the article and forwarded to all organisation I know around the globe because I want all of us to be in the know of the development, but whether anyone responded on not we are working towards it in Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya.
I understand the later part of ur comment perfectly we as it has really been the case for me too, more reason I have sacrificed everything to see Vitiligo cause brought to World Center stage.
I really appreciate ur comment Lucy.
