Wheatgrass juice and other supplements.

Has anyone tried wheatgrass juice for trying to treat their vitiligo? I have been drinking around 6-8 oz. a day for about 2 weeks. There are many benefits from it. Along with drinking wheatgrass juice, I have been gluten free for about a year. Eating lots of green vegetables, taking vitamin D, vitamin E, Vitamin B's, magnesium, omega 3's, probiotics and L-Phenylalanine.  I have had plenty of bloodwork done and all the results have come back with good results. I want to believe this may all someday pass, if not, I will at least know that I have done all could for my body.

  • I tried wheatgrass juice as part of a 3 month diet change and during the new diet my vit got worse, however it was at the same time as becoming a vegetarian / non dairy / gluten free diet so don't draw any conclusions from that.

    • @raj desai....have you given up on diet? The other thing to remember is that mental peace and satisfaction is important. If try these restrictive diets and are absolutely miserable and stress about everything you put into your mouth then that also becomes counterproductive. I think it is just as important to be happy, grateful and satisfied with your life. Yes, you should absolutely try to stabilize your vit but if you are miserable in every other way then that becomes counterproductive. gratitude and finding pleasure and satisfaction is also important.

A great read is a fading problem by another forum member.

For me personally taking charge and be in control in some way helps tremendously. Howver if this dietary changes make you a bitter and angry person than you are sort of defeating person.

Honestly sometimes you sense so much negativity and frustration from people who have had the disorder for a longer period. It's important to TRY AT LEAST so that you don't have any regrets thinking maybe if I did this then things would be different . I think most of do realize that this will not a walk in park. Some people have been succesful, of course while others have had no success or very little success.

I congratulate you Beth for trying and god willing wishing you complete success.
  • Ah if you already have cancer then wheatgrass all the way , you aint risking anything .

    • Dear Beth..I have tried all you did except L-Phenylalanine   ..that is the best and safest we can do ,It may have helped me react fast to treatments or may be it has helped me to stabilize my vita ..but it hasn`t cured me ..Keep on doing it and good luck.

      • I believe my vitiligo would probably be much worse had I not changed some things around in my life, such as...diet, sleep, etc. All we can do is the best we can and to carry on. Thanks for your encouragement and I wish the best to all of you.

  • Wheatgrass juice is good only in small doses like 2 oz a day , bigger doses will bring you cancer .

    • That's is very true. Dealing with cancer in my family ...wheatgrass helped quite a lot of people stay cancer free. However, it is important to take anything in moderation. So you are absolutely spot on BETH! I would worry just about allergies and taking it moderation. The biggest side effect would be if it caused further progression . Ppl with vit should treat their immune system like a new born baby. With utmost care Bc it is fragile.
    •  Interesting...I have done quite a bit of reading on this. I have read several articles that a few people have claimed it cured them of cancer. Only really have heard positive things about wheatgrass. The only caution they say is to be careful starting out drinking in small amounts to be sure you are not allergic to it.

  • how much fit are you affected by?  have any of the vitamins or supplements you have taken helped you stop the progression/spread of white patches, regain pigment or retain pigment.

wheatgrass is great...its a very very powerful antioxidant.  You just have to be careful not to overstimulate the immune system.  remember the immune system is attacking melanocytes in people with vit.  Tumeric and gingko biloboa are 2  other  very powerful antioxidants.  its used in a lot of herbal cocktails...for detox.  However, you just want to make sure its not overkill.

So what has your experience been like with wheatgrass?  notice any changes.  I have thought about using wheatgrass many times for vitiligo but again i read about mixed results.

    • Shifa, The top of my right hand is mainly affected by the vitiligo, I do have a little on my left hand around my thumb area. Yes, I have had quite a bit of new pigmentation on on my right hand, but there still is some slight progression of white patches.

I am hoping not to overstimulate my immune system. I had taken Ginko Biloba for several months and didn't really notice any positive changes.

As far as the wheatgrass goes, I definitely feel more energized. The wheatgrass that I am using comes in frozen cubes, they are flash frozen to preserve all the nutrients. I will continue to update on how it things go with this.
