What is your defence mechanism in public places???

I am having vitiligo from last 12 yrs yet I have not developed a solid defence mechanism. I have one that is I try to be either extremely dominant or extremely polite when talking to strangers but I think its not a good defence mechanism so wanted to know what you guys prefer to do???

  • Hello Vikash Patel,

I have lost all my pigment by natural progression over many years.  But that said, I do remember the many years of being very patchy with the white areas.  I learned several good and not so good coping mechanisms.  Since there was nothing I could do about it, I decided to always try to maintain eye contact, smile when I could and it seemed to knock other people off guard, or wake them up to not stare so much.  Some actually smiled back at me and then go their way.  But those were some difficult years to deal with my vitiligo.  I had friends who liked me, but my family would never talk about my vitiligo with me, kind of like the big pink elephant in the living room that no one sees.  Since total loss of my pigment I have been much happier and grateful.  My peace I send to you, friend.
