Hey everyone. This is my first post here. I'm 21 male, i've been living with vitiligo for as long as i can remember. It started with just a few white patches on my hands elbows and kneesand has since spread very slowly. 3 years ago it started on my upper lip and now continues to spread. Every summer i notice a few more spots. My skin is of a medium shade, so its not so noticable in the winter. My Vitiligo is something that has never really bothered me until recently. I've had such a radical shift in the way i see this disease. I;ve been finding it so emotionally difficult that my girlfriend refuses to leave my side, and insists that i get treated for sever depression... it's been a year now that i've been trying to treat the vitiligo on my face with a cream called "Dermovate" that i apply 3 times daily for 2 weeks and then stop for 1 week and repeat. I actually HAVE noticed a small amount of repigmintation right next to my lip. However it continues to spread in other areas. So i recently took it upon myself to try and cosmetically cover it with products i can find at the pharmacy. I now use a concealer stick that shades the vitiligo patches, but doesnt cover them, and i also apply a spray tan to my lip, by dunking a q-tip into the bottle and then pressing it to the affected areas.. This has made my vitiligo less noticable but still not completly covered (have a look at the attached pic and see for yourself). I am looking for a way to completly cover it. Again this is something that is causing me emotional and psychologocial distress on a level i have never experienced before. I can deal with vitiligo on my hands elbows and kness, but not my face. i await support, suggestions, tips, and product recomendations.

  • you can get Dermablend on amazon.com also. (i buy everything there)
  • So, I read your post and have no experience with any of the solutions that are being discussed. But I was more concerned with how discouraged you indicated you are. My Vitiligo on my face is also becoming much more noticeable, so I feel for you. I know it's difficult but just remember that you are not alone and those of us with Vitiligo do understand what you're feeling.
  • Hey Alex,
I'm also new to the site and also 21, but female as for trying to cover it with you being male im not sure if you want to use make-up but i am a makeup artist and i found that dermablend works pretty well for me, its just about finding the right shade, it looks funny on the hands but it blends well on the face at least for me! they have a website dermablend and there is a kit that comes with two colors and then a setting powder that is relatively inexpensive!
    Hope that helps, Good Luck

    • hi Kam!! and welcome to the site!!! about dermablend... i've been considering using this on my hands but you mentioned that your hands look funny with it on... Could you describe to me how they look? i don't want to go out and buy it and then be let down again.
      • I've attempted dermablend on my hands. it looks very caky, especialy in bright light. on a sunny day it sticks out almost as much as the vitiligo. on top of that it can wipe off onto clothes... could get messy. i use dermablend on my lips but that comes off a little bit when i drink something. i also learned the hard way that dermablend comes off easily while making out, even with the powder. thankfully it doesnt smudge onto the other persons skins lol...
        • haha, thanks Alex!!! you just saved me from wasting more money!
  • Hello, I'm new here. I am 46 and have had vitiligo since the age of 8. I have tried many cover up products. Here are the ones I have found that work on me. I hope they work for others as well. I use Dermablend, which you can buy at JC Penney or Linda Seidel's Natural Cover (www.lindaseidel.com). Sometimes I mix two shades together to get the correct shade, depending on how tanned, my "normal" skin is. I make sure I use a setting powder, becasue if I don't, the make up will come off. I hope this helps, Sincerely, Diana
  • I have vitiligo on my face and I use dermablend. it is a cover creme and powder base. It is water proof and kinds smudge-proof meaning I can lightly touch it and it won't come off. i wear it year round. people don't even know I have it on my face. i use 2 or 3 colors and mix them together for a perfect fit to my skin tone. i wear it and go swimming and as long as i don't wipe my face too hard it stays on all day even when swimming. I don't use cover on my hands or body because that just seems messy.

if i didn't have dermablend i probably wouldn't be handling the vit well at all. as a woman- not feeling attractive especially in the face would send me into a deep depression. try products and see what works for you. i wish you luck...
    • Hi, Does anyone know a website where it possible for me to order dermablend to get it in Jamaica? My make up routine entails a black or dark brown eyeliner which colors the spots on my face followed by pressed powder(similar to my complexion) over it to seal in the color. This covers the spots well, but the disadvantages are I have to avoid touching my face, its not waterproof , time consuming and needs touch ups especially if there is sweating. On my lips(my lips are pink) I use a moisturiser first ,then use a pink tone lipstick, the vit patches can be seen through the lipstick, so i use a brown eye liner to lightly shade the visible patches, then i place a little bit of baby powder(white) to my fingertips and gently apply it to my lips. After this i apply any shade of lipstick that I want. This also stays put until I eat. Please help me out of this dilema!
  • Hi,

2 days ago I tried the "Sun makeup" in a sun tanning center. I was very exited to se, if it would cover up my white spots, because I had earlier tried different self tanning products without any luck.
Today I have a very nice tan and my spots are not completely covered (hands especially) but the colour blends in with the rest of my body. In the future I will try Vitiligo Cover Lotion wich contains a high % of DHA. DHA is also the active ingredience in the sun makeup. Does anyone have experiences with Vitiligo Cover Lotion?
