vitamin supplementation

some questions"

I know this discussion has been done previously?  what are the recommended dosages for vitamins for vitiligo?

Where can a hair test be done?  seems so confusing on what vitamins should be taken.  Of course vitamin d is almost always low for most people and especially people with vit.  Seems like low vitamin D levels are a cause for so many disease.  I honestly wonder if this true or some sort of scam to make everyone take vitamin D.  Very frustrated sometimes.

Are there any specific vitamins targeted for vitiligo patients?

Should turmeric be taken or not.  some people say that an overactive immune system is responsible while others say an under active immune is response.  it is soooooo confusing.

---sorry to rant but sometimes it seem like we are all shooting in the dark trying stop our bodies from attacking itself...

  • Thanks Sonia. I will halt the use of tumeric as I am seeing rapidly growing spots.

I will look into bright side. What's your status kevin? Is your vit stable or the patches progressive...growing . What has helped you?
    • / the difference between activated and strong?  are there any foods/herbs that can de-activate the immune system?  would eating junk foods and eating poorly deactivate?  still very confused....

one thing is that turmeric is used for lightening the skin.  people in india want light skin and do stuff to ligthen the skin.  what things darken the skin?  would that work?  some people have written to avoid the sun because the immune system goes after the melanin.

kevin how do you stop the degenerative process according to bright side?  turmeric is good to ward off so many disease yet it might actually be harmful for vit patients.

black seed is another thing that has been used for centuries.  however, I wonder if it will actually activate the immune system.

of course steroids due deactivate the immune system but that has numbers side effects.  btw is pro topic a steroid?  i read conflicting information everywhere.

there is so much research on how to lighten skin....wonder if the reverse would work to produce melanin.

mehendi is used to color white patches and cover grey hair.  has anybody used it cover white patches?  indigo is also used on top of mehdi to give black color.  it is used as a natural hair dye.

      • Hi Shifa -

You can get a hair mineral analysis test done, which is what I have done. I am currently on a nutritional balancing program which strengthens the body's own detoxification process and helps it purge heavy metals. Heavy metal toxicity is implicated in autoimmunity. The most important vitamins/minerals for the immune system (and by extension vitiligo) are folate, B12, B6, zinc, vitamin D, and fish oil (omega 3s) Have you read Emily's Vitiligo? It may be helpful in figuring out what type of diet and supplements your son should take.

Also, what Kevin says is true. So many times I searched for answers directly related to "vitiligo". But, I realized that I needed to focus on what vitiligo actually is...a malfunction of the immune system. And figuring out why it has stopped working correctly is more than half the battle.

        • there is a malfunction of the immune system definitely.  how do we fix it?  steroids work for some by suppressing the immune system.  some people have success with creams and repigment.

my question is then wouldn't' sugar work......sugar suppresses the immune system also.  it is widely known that sugar hinders the immune system.  any thoughts on this?

of course for other autoimmune disease like rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis they have immunosuppressant drugs and they seem to benefit immensely with pain management.  what are your thoughts on this.

  • What we have is an activated immune system. Something wrong in the body causing it to happen. We still want a strong immune system but not an activated one due to stressors. Pretty much always from food... if you want to know how to reverse the degenerative process (which we are in), start listening to the bright side. Its a radio show that talks about how the body can reverse disease with the correct nutrition. All disease is cell disease and most all of them happen for essentially the same reasons. The cells are starving, suffocating, and have become ttoxic. Thats it. There are many actions we can take to halt and turn the process around. Eliminating toxic foods, drugs ect. Ill add more to this later as this is all i have time for. This is the real deal so get prepared to learn more about health than pretty much anyone you know ;)
