Hi everyone! I haven't been here in a while as I was busy with my wedding and moving four states away to my new job, but I have been thinking about my Vitiligo Friends a lot!
I have posted here several times about my use of Protopic. Protopic completely repigmented the skin around my eyes. I never used it on my chin because it gave me horrible breakouts. I used Protopic everyday for probably four or five months. I repigmented quickly and I was really happy because my Vitiligo is fast spreading and I had lost my insurance, which meant I would have to drop a couple hundred if I wanted more. My only issue was I had to completely avoid alcohol as it made my Vitiligo around my eyes BRIGHT RED and the burn was terrible. It was so bad I'd have to put ice cubes on it. I was happy with my results, repigmented around the eyes, but there was some hyper-pigmenting.
After five months, I stopped using it. I figured if I noticed it depigmenting again, I would use it again. Two years passed. It was May of this year when the sun came out again, I realized I had depigmented again, and I was right where I started two years ago. So I grabbed on old tube and put it back on. All day my face felt like it was on fire. I thought maybe, "the burn means it working?". It made my skin bright red. With my wedding date creeping, I just decided to forgo the Protopic until after the wedding because I knew I would be consuming alcohol.
So now it's time to start using it again, but I'm so scared. What if it burns terribly everyday? What if it doesn't work this time? I'm using an old tube, what if insurance doesn't cover it? I live in the southern part of the United States now and my job requires I go outside everyday, so what if it burns my skin? I will keep you updated.
Thanks for listening!

Hello Amanda, I have had vitiligo for 43 years. I just discovered this site. I am happy to hear so many positive thoughts. I have been able to cope with vit on other areas of my skin but not the face. I am almost completely covered except on my face. Just a few spots there. Good luck and be happy.
"Congratulations, Amanda!"
Make sure the protopic has not expired. And living and working outside in the south, I would use sunblock, especially on depigmented areas. Just my thoughts. Be happy!
