It's funny how we all have the same issues... Mine started later (late 30's) and when I got in my 50's is when it started progressing... WOW.... I'm 58 and still don't have it all over, but seems like new patches start up every day... We just learn to live with it... and make the best of it...
my grandmother didnt fully depigg till she was in her late 80's (she died at 91).
i first noticed on her when she was in her mid 70's. but she may have had it earlier and hid it well.
Hi Lulu,
I have lost all my skin color. I am not like milk white, but I am very fair. At times I have a pink glow that is fine with me. My hair turned white at the crown of my head and the temple areas on each side. I used to color my hair when I was young, now I just get heavy hilites and get lots of compliments on my hair. My friends my age and older at church, say I have the prettiest hands, I guess because they are not dark with age spots. I think to myself, if they only knew what I went through, but I just say thanks.
Hugs,
Patty

Patty: How long did it take to lose all the pigment in your skin? Did it go away naturally or did you use something to depigment? Just curious in case I ever need to do that... which, at the rate it's going may be sooner than later..
That happened when she was in her thirties.I really don't think there is anyway of knowing if your going to change completely to white. My vit had stopped for a while and began to spread all over my face.I was in my mid 40's when my vit appeared and at that time I thought I would not have it.I'm 53 now.
My step-dad has vit and he is in his 70's and he never covered all white, probably never will at his late age.My sister did sit out the sun to promote the vit to turn white.I wouldn't that because I blister after ten minutes plus I have more fear of getting skin cancer.
Never had sun exposure turn me whiter, if anything I get more pigment back from the freckles from being out in the sun. Maybe it's the damage from blistering? Did she blister much when she did the sun thing, or did she do it with applying lots of sunscreen. I don't fancy blistering. ;p
My sister never blistered sitting out in the sun.Now that she is all white,in comparison to the white I turned she looks like a very light skinned Mexican. My aunt looks almost albino, like me.My white turns beat red in the sun and burns, sort of like an acid burn.It only make the dark spots darker and the whites spots really red.
I don't recommend sitting in the sun for anyone. If it can give normal skinned people skin cancer I figure it would only affect us much faster.
The sun does make my hair turn really white in the summer,I'm just glad it doesn't fall out.
if you're gonna sit in the sun... please please use sunscreen.... very high SPF.
we are more susceptible to skin cancer.... which can spread and become other cancers. it's not worth the possibility.
there are a few people on here who have lost all their melanin. either naturally or with drugs.
My sister and aunt have turned completely white. It took my sister about 6 years from the start of her vit. It will probably take about 3 more years for my vit to cover me white.
