Treatments that worsened your vitiligo

Just wondering about people's bad experiences with any treatments? We're always asking what works, but has anything actually worsened your vitiligo? I know we all respond differently to treatments, but just curious! :) Jessica

  • Dear all vitiligo friends

please take PUVA and UVB treatment at your nearest doctor and get cured . dont take steriods especially AZORAN , BETNESOL FORTE OR any immunio suppressible agents to temporary stabilizing of vitligo . i am a vitiligo patient and from 10 years and  upto 8 years i have taken betnesol forte in kgs in these years and after stopping . i am having spots everywhere on my body ,

Please take UVA and UVB treatment ,surely costly but dont have any option other then that. steriods temporarily stablize you vitligo and give you very good result but after stopping it , the spots will increase at very high speed and and you will never get to know wats happening . i am a victim of steroids and want to help you guys . dont loose hope while fighting with this disease . IT is curable disease and it will get cured with PUVA and PUVB .

    • so sweet of u to come forward and say thing...even i dont believe in steriods

  • Many have said that ginkgo biloba helps, but some said it made things worse.  I started taking it and after about two months (after years of stability) I noticed problems.  So I immediately stopped and used UVB to get back to where I was before!

I have found that there is not a single thing that will work for everyone.  Trial and error has worked best for me.  I try something; if it doesn't work, I move on to the next thing!  After years I finally found a combination of diet, vitamins, creams, and UVB that seems to 1. produce increasing results for me and 2. stabilized me to where I only get better and not worse!  I wish there were a way for a single treatment or combination of treatments to work the same for everyone.  I realize how lucky I am and I know how others feel.  I would encourage you to continue to ask questions and do research.  That's what I did and as I said before, I finally found a combination of things that works well for me.

    • Thanks James, glad you found a combination that's working for you. How long did you try treatments for before you stop because it's not working? I've also heard the same about ginkgo biloba
      • My seven year old daughters white spot on feet is not going any treatment please suggest considering her age and doctor is really rude when I ask him questions about vitiligo which really dishearten me.
      • Jessica, I don't have a good, concrete answer for you, but will try and explain...  The first thing I do is look for results when the results are supposed to come.  So if something is supposed to take a certain number of weeks or months, I will usually go a bit longer (ie: if results are supposed to be noticeable in two months I won't give up for four to six months).  I have found that I just know when something isn't going to work.  Also, obviously if you start to notice a difference that you DON'T want then definitely stop immediately.  There are some things (ginkgo being one) that are known to have the opposite effect for some people, so keep an eye out for the reverse of what you want and stop if needed.

I think the best advice I can give you is that you know yourself and your body better than anyone else (including a doctor)!  You will know what works and what doesn't.  Trust your gut and keep experimenting until you get somewhere.  I have spent years using Google to search and search and have just kept trying things that make sense (be careful to not fall for the scams!).  Most things don't work (but they do for some others) and I seem to have gotten lucky with creams, vitamins, and diet for myself.

Also, remember that everyone is different.  Where something might work well for someone else it is worth trying for you, but if it doesn't work go on to the next thing.  Hopefully, like me, you will finally find what will help you!

If I can be of any help please let me know.  Obviously part of the reason for this site is for people that know how each other feel to take the time to try and help.

        • Hi james, really i appreciate your patients,  after so many experiment you got the result & you hav achieved very gud & thanks to sharing your experience, your feedback is helpful for others.

  • Thanks for your responses,i didnt know that info about homeopathy
  • One year back I meet a person accidentally and he told me that he has vitiligo 2 yrs back and one of his friends suggested to use homeopathy. He went to one institute and started using medicine and it was about to two years he continued the medicine and that worked for him,  got cured completely, he tried to show the areas which is cured and it is not even visible to me at the time when I saw him, his skin looking perfectly normal.

M self other than homeopathy everything I tried and nothing helped, then I started thinking about homeopathy and one fine day went to the same institute where that person took medicine and explained my conditions to doctors. In my first visit they said first it will get increase then it will start cure where it get increase and other areas.

I paid for one year package and started using, very first month more than 50 dots (very small) cured and I very impressed, hoping that it will cure my problem soon, next month onwards it started increasing on my face and the dots went off  during my first month medicine came back. It was about to 7 months medicine I took so far and still no positive signs and I am continuing the medicine.

So finally, the bottom line. Since we are all suffering with the same problem, but one particular protocol may or may not work for all of us. So we cannot judge or say this medicine is not perfect for vitiligo.

    • well frnd same thing happened with me..but that doctor didn't inform me that first he will increase n then try to decrease...when I asked abt that then he told me its standard procedure of homeopathy..
N it causes spots on my face its very shocking..at least if u can't cure us then don't increase that..for him its just regular patient but for us slight increase in spots causes huge damage to our confidence!
So that's why so much hatred for homeopathy!
Later I stared kayakalp, faridabad within a 2 months I saw improvements to 'that' increased spots n in 6-7 months I regain my original pigments!
