Thinking of quitting my line of work.

Hi everyone. Hope you are all well.  I just need to vent. I hate summer. I notice my spots on my hands so much. It seems every year, there are more and more.  I'm a birth doula.  This is a career I started to get into last year. I'm currently working towards my certification. Problem is, my spots are so noticeable now. I'm so emberassed of myself. I've got 2 clients delivering their babies in June, and I think they will be my last 2.  I haven't really tried much as far as treatment. I had protopic, but wasn't faithful in using it because I just feel so hopeless. I feel like I won't be able to live life to the fullest because of this! I'm so sad. I'm at a total loss right now. Most people don't know I have it. I'm afraid of them noticing now.Thank you for letting me vent. I really don't have anyone to talk to about this.

  • i too have deal with ppl in my line of work so understand your concerns but let me give you some advice be strong and know you are in control of life with gods help and know one else. ppl only fear the unknown, and the type of world we live in ppl can be very naive but when ever you feel down i dont know if you belive in god but he belives in you and will see you threw this even if you dont, so just whisper a prayer the nxt time you feel that negativity and trust me he will turn it into something positive.
just the fact we have a site like this shows he cares
    • Hi Neila, thank you for your reply. I do believe in God. You are absolutely right. I do pray and I know that He is ultimately the one who will get me through this. Thanks for the reminder!
  • Thank you everyone. I'm just having a hard time with this. I appreciate your support like you don't even know!! I love this place. xoxoxo
  • Don't quit. I am african american and I am 90% depigmented. Most of my original color is only left on my lower legs, my arms and my face......the three areas that are most visible day to day. I am an Elementary Phys. Ed teacher!!!! My spots are noticible!!!! Vitiligo shouldnt make you embarassed. Use any comments as a teachable moment. I either tell people that I am a dalmation or that the spots are where the angels kissed me. Both of those are things I have had people tell me about my vitiligo! Don't let vitiligo stop you from living your life.........I never have!!! Feel free to message me if you need support!

I dont live with Vitiligo......Vitiligo has to live with me!!!!!!
  • I'm so sorry you feel that bad about doing your job. What a wonderful job to have, don't give up!! Keep working for your certification! What Cheryl said is true is people notice just explain and most are understanding. I have been a waitress for 23 years, for the last 4 years worked with a big patch on my right lower arm and never had a problem.
    Stay positive!
  • Hey hun...I know how you feel...summer is the worst and i get more every year too!...I honestly dont think you should quit your job because of it! Dont ever let vitiligo hold you back!...I know its hard when people notice it but really to most people its not that big of a deal!...When I started my job i felt the same way!...I am a daycare teacher and i see so many people through the day and everyone has been great about it....they even said that they never even really notice it! Just keep ur head up and have confidence and everything will be great!
