I got a tattoo on my wrist of a small heart - which did not have vitiligo to begin with - but after like a week, around the skin began turning white and the black ink has faded nastily. I was thinking about going over it again but I'm not sure if this is gonna make things worse.
Does anyone have a tattoo covering vitiligo or had a tattoo in a place where there was no vitiligo and vitiligo began spreading?

Yeah i got a tattoo covering my foot vitiligo spots in February, and nothing has really happened, my vitiligo is spreading at a normal rate, i got a colored tattoo and i've noticed some area's getting brighter as my vitiligo spreads and brightens the color. I hope everything comes out alright, I don't know if maybe they just did a bad job tattooing but mine still looks great, good luck!!
So far so good - except it itches like heck :( but that's part of the healing process. I'm making sure I take good care of this one because I want more, but I wanna see how this goes. Thanks for the response (:
Hey Evelyn
Watch out before you do a more tattoo.
If you have active vitiligo ..tattoo is not advised as it can cause trauma to the skin.If you have a type of skin when ever you screech it stays white ,then you are not a good candidate for Tattoo ,
Otherwise if you have stable vitiligo ..it is advised to use even a micropigmentation as a treatment ,it is a medication tattoo.
Good luck!
Thank you guys so much! I got a new tattoo today which I'm loving on my lower back (that doesn't have vitiligo) of a star. It's pretty big so I pray to God it stays neat. I'm so happy your responses say that Vitiligo isn't supposed to affect my tattoo. My friend has like a million tattoos and no vitiligo - I finally got the balls to get some with her so this time we went to a new tattoo-er. The last one actually did get a pretty bad job to begin with so I hope the outcome is totally different.
Thanks again!
I've attached pictures of the old tattoo and the one I got today (4/23/12).

Evelyn,
You got a bad tattoo job... it has nothing to do with Vitiligo.
Your Vitiligo cannot whiten the ink in your tattoo. Tattoos have nothing to do with your own pigment -- they are an external (foreign) object inserted into your skin. There are mummies over 2000 years old with the tattoos still visible... I suspect your tattoo artist made a mistake somehow. Go back to him/her and ask to have it redone or re-colored.
that is very odd, typically tattoos are not affected by vitiligo, i have tattooed pigmented skin and non pigmented skin and I never experienced anything like that, I don't wanna tell you which way to go becasue everyone is different butI might consult with a dermatologist for advice if I were you
Best Wishes
