Skin Whitening Science (don't panic)

Hi friends,

Please don't panic!

I found the following website that published a lot of contradictory information about anti-oxidants.  We all know they play a big role to help vitiligo sufferers,  however it seems that it also may play the opposite role for some people.

Please read thewebsite (all pages) and let me know your opinion.

My conclusion is the following:

1-  We all need antioxidants, in order to be promote balance between free radicals and our anti-oxidant defense system;

2- Too much might be a problem  (Whitening?  Slowing down T-Cell Regs?,  whatever)

3- We have to select the right ones and it's very specific for each person.

  • after reading the intro on that website i felt i wanna puke ! i don't like the whole idea of acceptance what is wrong because some "douche" decided that different cultures can be different in perception what is scientifically/morally right or wrong !

skin lighting in India or skin darkening in Europe are equally stupid and can hurt the social acceptance of different looking people, actually the whole thing that promotes an idea of skin and beauty is just so naive and retardant .

for any person with vitiligo -including me- i feel the urge to fight such product
    • Hi AmrAssaf,  I agree.

However the focus here is about antioxidants.  My concern is how much they help vitiligo or they can agravate it.

      • Antioxidants are used to even out dark spots/agespots/melasma what ever you want to call it (skin whitening). Either way, anti oxidants were used in every case i have heard about people repigmenting and are essential for life. The only one that concerns me really is vitamin c. For some reason ive read in multiple places that vitamin c can cause some problems when it comes to vit spreading. Not sure if people are just not doing something right or what but it is essential for us to get it through diet and or supplementation being we are one of three species that doesnt make their own and without it we would literally fall apart because its necessary for connective tissue production. Just sayin, id be careful with this one? Anyone have experience with vitamin c?
        • Vitamin C interferes with melanin synthesis by reducing oxidized dopaquinone, interrupting DHICA (intermediate in the biosynthesis of melanin)  oxidation and interacting with copper ions at the active site of tyrosinase.  In fact, vitamin C acts as an Reactive Oxygen Spieces (ROS).

        • BTW, nice you are back.

        • I agree on Vitamin C issue.  I my opinion, ALA, Betacarotene and Complex-B  (except Niacin) are the best anti-oxidants for vit sufferers.

  • Too much of every thing is not good for us...Too much vitamin c olso  can reduce the effect of uv treatment. bluberry fruit which is high in antioxdent is not good for us coz it has Natural hydroquinone the same to pears containing arbutin which converts to hydroquinone..they say we have to avoid fruts containing arbutin.

Any one who knows what type of fruts /antoxdents good and bad for us?

    • My friend Bamsegutt,  thanks for your excellent comments as usual.
