For the last four months I have been slowly repigmenting. It's a small spot on the outside of my right hand that right now is hyperpigmented, but it's very promising.
I'm not sure what exactly is working but I'll tell you what I've been doing...
- exercising on a regular basis (usually yoga, sometimes running, total around 3x/week)
- limiting animal products (ex: eating very limited meat/fish/seafood, using soy milk instead of cow's milk, no yogurt, limiting cheese or using goat cheese)
- taking a B vitamin complex and acidophilus supplement
- re-connecting spiritually
- getting all the rest I need
- admitting when I need a break to manage stress
- envisioning my hands free of vitiligo
Thank you all for your support!

Hi Kim! I'm so pleased for you! I wonder if you've had any more repigmentation since this post? I totally agree with you that changing your lifestyle and staying positive can get results. My question is whether you (or anyone else reading this) saw any pink colouration to your vit patches before repigmentation? I have heard other people describe this, and I genuinely think today that some of my patches are pink! I'm trying not to get too excited but it's hard not to when I've not seen any change for over 15 years! I've been taking heaps of supplements recently (most of the common ones recommended on this forum) and have been gluten free for nearly 2 weeks. I had a persistent ezcema-like rash that has vanished in the last week. Sending positive vibes to you all!! Gem xx
i'm very happy for you! all the best with the repigmentation. i have vitiligo on my neck and i think it's slowly spreading to my face but just seeing that repigmentation is possible gives me hope! :) thanks for sharing. i have completely changed my diet as well, am taking supplements and am using protopic. finger crossed, i will see some results soon.
Thanks so much for the encouragement and you too don't give up!!! I think the biggest change in my vitiligo was when I realized I could repigment. Then I was not worried about it spreading and feeling helpless, but instead focused on how to HEAL my body. I went from a process of being sick to feeling well that the vitiligo could then follow. I hope that makes sense, but basically I think it's about perspective and if you change your thinking you can change what's going on in your body!
What changes did you decide to make in your diet? What supplements are you taking? I'm always interested to hear what other people are doing. I used protopic in the past but I'm not using it now. Let me know how it works for you. Have you thought about trying any of the alternative topical treatments like the anti-vitiligo oil or melansol? I'm just curious.
Let's continue to share with one another along our journey.
Yes, i completely agree with you. whenever i read about other people having successes with repigmenting it just gives me hope and then i see myself repigmenting as well. it is always good to be positive!
i've been undergoing PUVA over the past 3 months and have had moderate success with that. i think i'm about 30% repigmented with that but it is hyperpigmentation (much much darker) so i think it makes people actually notice my vitiligo even more. diet wise, i have cut out dairy and meat and am trying to eat alot of vegetables. basically i read valerie's story which she posted here and am trying to follow as much as i can. i take vitb complex, b12, milk thistle and folic acid supplements as well. recently, i also went on a blood test and am just waiting to get my results back to see if my liver functions are all normal and if i am deficient in any vitamins.
i have purchased both melansol and dermabest and they just arrived yesterday. i live in the uk so i'm still waiting for a sunny day to start these treatments! i am planning to put both on different parts of my spots so i will be able to tell which one might be more efffective. other than that, i am considering purchasing a nb-uvb handheld unit. i am meeting my doctor tmr and will ask her what she thinks. i heard nb-uvb is more effective and might not cause as much hyperpigmentation so i'm really interested in that.
i think all that i'm lacking in right now is exercise and reading your post has inspired me so i think i might just go for a run now! :)
definitely, keep me posted about your healing too. i wish you all the best!
I request the community to put their trust in Protopic and Apexicon.
I wanted to share our story. We are in initial stages for my 8.5 year old. Combination of Protopic and Apexicon is working so far. It came on eyelid. Medicine worked. Then, it came on the feet in the form of islands and small dots on legs. We are applying medicine. It is fading away now. Its also on elbows, we are applying, no much progress there.
My theory is, medicine seem to work on skin. But, takes long on the bony areas such as knee and elbow. We dont care as long as it works. Nervous on one side and optimistic on the other side.
My daughter says that the spots are playing hide and seek games with the medicine.
Thanks to all the encouragement we get here. Now, I visit this site everyday.....
