  • I see my derm tomorrow after 2 months on the protopic. I was applying it once a day as per the derms instructions. I have been seeing freckling and some growth of pigmentation in some areas and then in others it is still depigmenting. What a confounding disease this is. I have also been experiencing flu-like symptoms and headaches. I am going to make sure it is not something else making me feel this way but if it is the protopic I might discontinue its use and just try and stay out of the sun so that the skin colors aren't so different. I am getting really fed up. Thank God winter is coming. A much easier time of the year as the tan fades and I am wearing long pants and sleeves again. This summer has been murder it's been so hot.
  • i was told not to use protopic on my face,i'm glad i didn't after hearing everyone say that protopic burns
    • i think it depends on the pencentage of the solution and how sensitive your skin is. from what i've ben reading here it works fastest on the face... much slower on other extremities.
  • Hello I was given that too and I have Vitiligo under my eyes and the skin there is very thin and burnt my skin with protopic I stopped right away...........I have lots on my hands now.....anything for the hands...take care LISA
  • protopic really did nothing for me , when i first starting using it ,it seemed like it was working ,but then nothing
  • I used to use protopic a few moment ago. It was working pretty well but when I stopped it, my patches came back like before.... (and I don't know if using it a very long time is good seeing the side effects).
  • Protopic and alcohol do not mix - this enhances the burning sensation.
  • I started using Protopic 4 weeks ago. My derm said to try it for three months and see if it helps. I had the same problem with it burning my face the first day I used it and I was also wondering if it was worth it! After the first day it got better. I use it twice a day. I read to use it once in the morning and 12 hours later in the evening also to rub it in, leave it on for at least 30 minutes and then wash off. I am using it on a big patch on my shin, my lower arm patch, back of hands, one elbow and face. My shin and elbow are showing a little new brown pigment.
I hope it is helping you too!
    • My Derm has recommended using Protopic (.1%) just once a day. This seems low as everyone else seems to be using it twice a day. Has anyone used this strength twice a day? Am also trying a 40% coal tar solution so am using Protopic on one side of my body and something similar to V-Tar on the other side and I am to try this for 2 months and then go back and see the Derm whom suggested this regimen which leads me to believe that she doesn't think there will be any significant change from either. Any thoughts anyone? Am I being negative?
      • Just follow your derm's suggestion. Looks like you ran into a nice derm. Obviously. your derm saw the diffrences in the vitilogo patters on your body. It appears, that you ran into a good derm. Derms use these techniques to figure out Vitiligo response and its progression. The goal is to figure out what to rule out completely and what to consider. 2 months is a very short time in Vitiligo journey, it will go very quickly. But the analytical data is important.

We used to DOUBT our derm quite a bit. But, every time, our derm tried these kinds of tricks, the end result was always POSITIVE and worked out in our favor. You just have to trust your derm and proceed. It brought success to us....and, hopefully, it will do for you as well. Best of Luck.
