I am about to start Protopic for vit on my arms and hands. Has anybody had any success with Protopic on these areas? I hear it works better on the face. I also have read that dressings at night help it along. Have any of you had experience with covering it up at night? I'd like to hear what success you have had with Protopic.

  • Hey Pat

Protopic worked wonders for me in the groin area but only in conjunction with hydrocortisone (one in the morning one at night). Once I switched to protopic exclusively for safety reasons, positive progress stopped almost completely. I guess that might mean only the hydrocort was working...

Sorry if that bums you out.
    • Did you use a prescription strength hydrocortisone or over the counter cream? My doctor wontr prescribe both at once.
      • prescription strength. My doctor prescribed both but cancelled the hydrocort after 6 months citing safety concerns. I guess it just depends on the doctor. Nothing remotely hazardous happened to me while I was on the hydro cort/protop combination.

        Only repigmentation =D
  • We have almost 15 months of experience with Protopic other than face. I am not sure about very well established Vitiligo. But, for Vitiligo in the initial stages on knees, elbows, foot, ankle, hips, armpits, Proptic works well. Derm will prescribe the correct dosage, # of days, plus he/she may augment with a mild steroid.
I personally think, that, Dermatologist should be very aggressive, that's very (I mean, VERY) important. Our Derm usually takes 5 to 10 seconds at the skin, before he starts speaking. During that time, he already analyzed the progress and made up his mind on the future treatment. We suspected him quite a bit. Took us a long time to begin trusting him.
