Many of you have heard reports on the news or seen articles in the media regarding new issues surround Protopic and Elidel. Recently, a Food and Drug Administration Panel of the Division of Pediatric Drug Development convened. They discussed issues regarding a collective review of data which show several new animal studies documenting an increase in the likelihood of skin cancer and lymphoma with prolonged use of Elidel or Protopic. As a result, both Protopic and Elidel have received a black box warning from the Food and Drug Administration.

I agree with Miguel that we should look into all these treatments and consider them carefully. I have also read that Protopic is better for you than steroids. Nothing should be used too long. If it's applied on the skin its better than taking a pill, and skin cream is what Protopic is. Do all your doctors limit it to a few months or what is the best mount of time to take it for? I am ready to start on it myself. My GP is prescribing it and she knows little or nothing about vit and my dermatologist doesn't care. With Protopic, should you continue to use sun exposure or not? It's an immune suppressant, and isn't that what the UVB rays are too? I am so confused with this! Please share with me with you know and have read and heard.

Thanks for this info. I really was NOT aware. We have been using protopic for the past year and half or our daughter. Luckily, it helped her. 100% result on the eyelids. Little slow on the ankle and other bony parts. Our Derm is a very aggressive person in the treatment of Vitiligo and also very active in the academic research. I will reach out to him for his opinion and will share, what I find.

yea my Dr, warned me about it, but i guess im just so shallow that im willing to even trade my soul to the devil for beautiful skin... :S kinda sad actually. No offense to anyone this is just me being honest to my self.
I think that is for others to decide Miguel, there is alot of things that cause cancer and not everything that happens in Animal studies happen to humans as well, most of us here are adults and can make educated decisions on their own
