Antuana, none of my children have vitiligo; and I am not worried about the future. Since I know the disease very well now, I am confident that vit can be defeated if managed immediately after the first spot. Let's be positive.
I am glad that everyone shared their thoughts and experiences and as of now neither of my children have it and I have an aunt who has it and neither of her children have it either....Another positive is that you can still have children with vitiligo and no matter what ALL children are a blessing :-)

I was wondering how pregnancy affects vitiligo. Did yours get worse or better during and or after pregnancy?
I wonder the same thing. I am hopefully going to have mine under control before we start trying. Hopefully clinuvel will come through and then we won't have to worry about this. ;)
yes, of course, your children will have a higher chance than someone without vit...but plenty of people have vit with no known genetic family history.
my husband and his father also have Vit. we were told 5% chance by nanette silverberg who the vit foundation recommended we see bec she is one of a few leading experts in the country. I asked bec I had also read posts where they said it's a 25% chance, so was really worried for our 2 kids. I just keep thinking my kids have have a 75-95% chance to NOT get it -- think positive :) Those are pretty good odds! Our kids can always inherit something from us, whether it's diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc....of course, we want to protect them and wish they don't suffer like we have...but there is no 100% guarantee.
Thank you so much for the positive words! My husband and I just recently got married and we are thinking about children in our near future and that is one of my biggest worries. You are right, I need to concentrate on the positive!
I have had vitiligo since I was 11 and my father had it when he was 9 or so. no one else in my family has had it and my two brothers do not have it. A geneticist said that there is a 1 out 4 chance that a child will have it if one of there parents has it. I feel like that is accurate because of my situation and I have spoken to a few other people who have had a parent have it and they have it yet their brothers or sisters don't. But then again their are some children of parents with it that don't have it either. I guess it always varies.
Dont worry about passing vit to your children,,,the chance is vary small I have heard it from the leading genetic and vitiligo reasercher proff. Sprtz ...the chance is about 3-7 persent it normally about 3 % ..if both parent have it the chance is more. most genetic inheritence goes to grand children.
