I've been reading about ppl with vit having low stomach acid. Can someone explain and what can be done. How does this cause vit?
So ppl with vit:
Problem liver detoxification
Low stomach acid
Leaky gut
Predisposition to autoimmune disease
Many times family history
Possibly adrenal fatigue
Is there anything else to be concerned about?

Again, this is part of digestion. Low stomach acid contributes to lots of degenerative diseases not just vit. When you have liw stomach aacid, the food doesn't get broken down enough before it enters the gut. Then the gut has a big problem to deal with again.. so now you have chunks of food and pieces of proteins in the gut that are not in their amino acid forms that will get through the intestinal lining (from intestinal permeability aka leaky gut) and enter tge blood. Now our bodies see invaders and produce antibodies to attack those peptides (second stage of a protein) but the problem is alot of these peptides and proteins look a lot like what we are made od so the antibodies will attack our own cells by accident. (Auto immunity) ... low stomach acid also causes b12 and folic acid deficiency! Crazy huh? We can do things to raise stomach acid like using apple cider vinegar with all meals or taking Betaine hcl capsules. Also sugar consumption halts stomach acid production. Low stomach acid also affects ALL down stream digestive processes so it is very very important to make sure you make enough stomach acid. I like that you found this tho! Your walking down tge right path! Never take antacids!! Low stomach acid and high stomach acid have tge same symptoms but its almost always low stomach acid that is the case and not many people know this. Have you been listening to the bright side shifa? There are alot of brodcasts where he explains how to correct your digestive system. Raise stomach acid, get probiotics, use bone soup to help repair and sooth the intestinal lining. Hope that all helps you understand a little better!
that's the thing Kevin and Matt. until this theoretical stuff is implemented in practice and any changes are noted that's when we can determine if this can be successfully used as an intervention with positive effects in self-treating vitligo.
IMO,
1) in treating vitiligo first step should always be to try to stabilize or stop the progression of further white spots/patches or a vit attack as i like to refer to it. Try to narrow down why the attacks are occurring...extreme stress, lack of sleep (which typically causes the release of neurochemicals and neurohormones), poor diet, excess use of chemicals or toxicity due to environment or health and beauty products. I think its very important and vigilant on what precipitated the attack. Then try to change those causes..your skin is on the line.
2) second step is re-pigmentation of existing white patches
3) third is mantainance of the re-pigmentation and no ward off further attacks hopefully.
the only thing that I am consistently reading has been beneficial to many in re-pigmenting is SPINACH and green leafy veggies. At the same time ironically powerful anti-oxidants seem to further empowering a trigger-happy immune system and causing more white patches.
This really is a very complex disease and we all need to pro-active. Thankfully its not fatal or painful physically but can potentially damage the person afflicted in other ways.
Of course this is not a simple or quick fix. The sad part is no doctor/dermatologist is going to sit there and tell you what to do. Their job is to TREAT SYMPTOMS once they have occurred. Naturopaths take a different approach and sometimes tell you to take mega-doses of vitamins and supplements.
This is not theory, it is absolutely true. I have been following a leaky gut protocol like Kevin describes here for about a year now and my vitiligo has slowed to almost a complete stop. As you said extreme stress, lack of sleep, poor diet, excess use of chemicals or toxicity due to environment, are definite factors, but they also ALL contribute to low stomach acid which ultimately leads to leaky gut.
Of course this is not the only thing I have been doing, as toxic buildup in the body is another huge issue for those with vitiligo. It has been suggested that vitiligo is a result of toxins trying to eliminate through the skin when the liver and other detox pathways are impaired.
Vitiligo is so hard to treat because you have to address so many different areas in order to really get it under control. I have completely changed my entire lifestyle. Here is the story of a woman who has been able to successfully stop and reverse her vitiligo by healing her gut: http://realvitiligotreatment.com/vitiligo-repigmentation-success-st...
I agree with you Shifa in that it's very important to be vigilant on what precipitated the attack. This is what I have done, and I am treating my vit based on those factors. So far it seems to be working well :)
This theory is right for those who develop vitiligo connected to other autoimmune diseases ...for some ppl correcting the main cause help them repig, Most of us we are healthy ppl where we dont need any supplements, we dont have all the other problems ppl have .
We develop vitiligo coz we are genetically predisposed to vit and can be trigged due to combination of environmental factors.
The only thing we can do is ..live healthy ..get balanced diet, less stress ... dont touch/ use phnolic chemicals .
Live normal life ,Dont stress too much about vitiligo ..what ever we do some times it goes its way. Live balanced life and be happy get moderate sun ,dont burn...The ony known tigger for most of us is emotional stress.

you seem to really know your stuff, have you had any progress or improvement?
