  • Ahmed I will advise that you try and appear in your most comfortable state. If makeup will give you that all well and good (but rmb that its alwys better for them to know you from day one the way you are to avoid greater rejection except you are sure you can live up to concealer if you choose it).

I remember going for an interview sometime in 2005 my first year of Vitiligo and it has really taking the right side of my forehead, I was wearing low cut hair so it was glaring being black. I was disturbed all thru the nite prior to the interview, but as I enter the building I just told myself that there are two either they take me or they will not , but prayed that they will not mention Vit as why they wont take me event thought I wanted them to ask me what happened. I got the job out of others though didnt last on the job.
You know two years after I was discussing with the editor because its a media house and she was surprised when I said I have Vitiligo, she never saw it, told me I was so confident at the interview and during my stay with the company, I couldn't believe it because if you ask me I will tell you that I was scared stiff that day.

In all, am trying to say is present yourself in your best and this will happen when you have accepted yourself. Please don't be confused it cannot solve the problem.....try, work on your mind, Brace up and move.
    Vitiligo is not your fault.

    Self Love
    Self Acceptance is Key!!!!

    All the Best Ahmed
    • thanks nicole .. i decided to let it go and just be natural .. hopefully this won't be the barrier of my career.

that was what i was thinking about .. if who ever is hiring me (well for this particular job where there isn't any social activity) and rejected me for having vitiligo .. i won't like working with these narrow minded people.
    • thanks very much .. this have put more confidence on me.. ill go there with out cover .. final decision ..
  • thanks very much all for your reply .. i think ill get more confidence with showing it .. but then ill be afraid of rejection ..and then if i went there with it covered and.. well .. get the job .. this is even worse .. and would affect on me even more .. ill live on the fear of getting exposed .. this is so depressing .. isn't it enough to be romantically rejected for this to show up .. sigh ..

i think the best thing for me is let things go and not to be tactical .. just a hope...
  • It's a hard choice, but if you're afraid at all that your potential employees will judge you and that it could effect you chances I'd cover it. I'm all about showing my vit off and raising awareness, but you just don't know how other people will react. In Canada they wouldn't be allowed to ask for fear that you would be offended and go to the labor board about it, so if they don't ask they'd probably be even more weirded out about it. Unless you were intending on bringing it up, which would for sure be a very good ice breaker. And if you cover it for the interview you can always tell/show them later, once they've hired you they are most likely more open to things.

I went to one interview and had bare arms and the lady told me that even though I was comfortable with it some of the customers might not be and that I should cover up (I would have still gotten the job). Of course I was offended and chose not to work there, but even though I was confident and explained what it was she still wasn't comfortable. So I guess it all depends on what industry your working in as well. Usually once they've hired you they can't fire you!
    • when studying years a go i used to work as a cashier , ppl gave me all kinda of looks ..but hey things that cant break would only makes you stronger . ..thinking about it now i laugh
  • hey ahmed , ezayk ?
i think covering vitiligo is not a very clever move cause sooner or later the issue would force itself on you and the job you are trying to get , i know exactly how you feel since lately iv been going to job interviews ( it was hard at first but with time it gets better ) ... people have to consider your personality and brain not how you look !
so i think that starting your work life worrying about vitiligo is more streesfull than letting things goes as normal as they should be ...

    good luck bro , inshallah 5air :)
  • If covering your VIT raises your confidence - then do it. It is very unlikely you could get rejected just because you have VIT. Good luck !!!!
  • It would be what makes you comfortable, but If it were me, I would do what would make me most comfortable and confident. Confidence is what you need during a job interview and interviewers can see and feel how confident you are. So cover up or go natural. It's your call. Good luck and bless you!
