why is that even after realizing that vitiligo is not a disease...general public avoid physical contact with the people having viti.Awareness tells the truth about the vitiligo,But still people react strangly.I think they should have the heart to accept their fellow humanbeing irrespetive of  physical appearance. It is their point of view  that hurts  then the condition itself.

  • Everybody loves me and those who don't.... I simply avoid them.

  • I travel to office by bus.though we boast about awareness of viiligo ,i.still suffer humiliating searching eyes.and suddenly i enter into low self esteem and insecurity.i am going through this since 20 years.what do u say for such strangers who try to hurt me.
    • I have experienced such humiliation so many times...I tried  explaining about Vitiligo to others, but it  dosent change their point of view .A girl who is a Nurse in a hospital rejected to marry me just because I have vitiligo. So what is the point in creating awareness when people refuse to change.Nowadays I dont waste my time explaining about my condition to strangers.Because it is a never ending story. But I always wanted to yell at  the searching eyes "

  • Hi Thadeus,  I wish people would look into each others eyes and speak.

I would love to just put a blindfold on say a negative person and let them run their fingers over a person with vitiligo skin.  There is no difference in texture, but so many people in my younger life would say you must have got burned or looks like your suntan is peeling.  My husband always told me my skin was so soft and smooth and he went through my progression of vitiligo for almost 50 years.  Now I am total vitiligo and fair skinned and I am now happy and compassionate with other unique individuals.  Good topic.
