Just ran into an unplesant situation today, which led me to write this because, I got reminded of Dr. Martin Luther King.  I am not good at poetic english, but these are my sincere thoughts really.

I have a dream

That my young daughter will one day live completely free of Vitiligo.  No one will “stare” at her Vitiligo, but will stare at her raw and pure beauty and will most certainly be judged by the content of her character.

I have a dream

That one day, my daughter will NOT have to go vitiliginous journey

I have a dream today

That one day, humans no longer worry or fear about the word, “vitilogo”

I have a dream today

That one day, humans will no longer worry about pigment loss, re-pigmentation and de-pigmentation….Just live normal peaceful life ignoring the onset of vitilogo on their skin.

I have a dream today

That humans one day, no longer need to worry about the patches or symmetry brought by vitilogo

I have a dream today

That one day, humans no longer worry about covering their skin with creams.

I have a dream today

That one day, humans no longer are diffident due to vitiligo.

I have a dream today

That one day, humans no longer need to answer questions, that should not be asked to begin with

I have a dream today

That my vitilogofriends forum members have nothing to share but success stories, one after another.

I have a dream today

That there will NOT be even one single person impacted negatively due to vitiligo in some form or other

I have a dream today

That pharma companies and medical community will stop playing politics and will come together to find a “permanent cure”.

I have a dream today

That FDA will encourage and open doors for research programs associated with Vitilogo

I have a dream today

That one day, vitilogo is completely ignored even in certain cultures, where vitiligo is not very well welcomed.

I have a dream today

That one day, I just simply forget that vitiligo even exist in my family (and also all other family members, who are currently diagnosed).  Basically, got vitilogo !  …If yes, who cares !  Or, he/she has vitilogo, no big deal !.  It shall be treated something like wearing eye glasses or contacts ! As  simple as that. I prey that day is NOT too far.  I hope I will see that in my lifetime.

I have a dream today…

Every pharma compay, regulatory agency and doctor will say, we REFUSE and REJECT the notion that,  Vitiligo is incurable.

Humans could fly like a bird.  Humans could swim like a fish.  Why not, find cure for vitiligo……

I sincerely think, we CAN, if all hands are JOINED !

This is my HOPE….Hope, what a beautiful word !

  • VERY NICE Jo!!!
  • really i do hope so but untill this happen we people with vitiligo shall suffer everday.vitiligo isn't physically painful but that pain in the heart and soul is really much more painful. that pain when peaple start gazing at you as if you are a monster is unbearable
  • I am so sorry that you had an unpleasant situation today. Your hopes and dreams are same as those of everyone here - who so badly want to look and be NORMAL. I know two on this group from South Africa and Russia - who tell me people there do not stare at others with Vitiligo. It does not bother non-vit people that they have vit. I pray and hope that people here, and where you are start behaving that way soon. Take care, Nathan - and give my best wishes to your daughter.
    • Sorryy also for your situation today. People can be cruel but I believe 98% of people are great and unfortuately you ran into 1 of the 2%. Hang in there. As Lady_Jo said you need to be strong for your daughter.
