Most people don't know what Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ( ALS) is, But when you mention Lou Gehrigs Disease they say Oh, I heard of that, That's why I believe that Vitiligo should be renamed Michael Jackson Disorder or syndrome, Because almost everybody in the world knows who Michael Jackson was but little know about Vitiligo because it's so rare and people don't normally see a person with Vitiligo that often, Give me your thoughts on this matter about renaming Vitiligo the Michael Jackson disorder or Syndrome, I would like to hear input from you all on this site concerning this matter.

  • Honestly, i love mj. But to rename vitiligo after him doesn't sit too well with me. For some funny reason i have a feeling it won't get the good attention it needs, only bad. They will probably call it the wako jacko disease just as lucy said. I love him but he wasn't a voice for it when he was alive and i don't think he should be a voice for it in his death. And most importantly until someone gets some hard evidence that he had vitiligo it would seem really silly of one to suggest the naming of it. I beleive he had it but again i don't have evidence of that, any real in my face evidence other than pics that can be photoshoped.
  • I don't think it should be, unless he was a voice for vitiligo, which he wasn't. He hid it until it wasn't possible to hide anymore. Publicity is good, but only in certain context, and connection to people who has generally had a positive public light, like Danny said.
  • I dono bout that, just becauce we dont really no if thats really wht even had,and when i meet new ppl n the say o yah thats what micheal had i 4 some reason tend to get affended...dont get me wrong i like MJ grew up listening to his music..But when it comes to my disorder i rather not be compared to him..Cause even if he did have it why did he have to change his hair, nose, and lips to look more white which jus makes me think he just wanted to be white,or more like peter pan so he would say...Yah alot more ppl would take notice if thats what it was named after but would it result in a good cause or bad..?
  • I don't mean to be negative but there are a lot of narrow minded and shallow people in this world that considered micheal a freak. I like to explain what vitiligo is that way people dont discriminate. I don't think he was a freak I was a fan so not to offend anyone but I think your chances of being shunned or discriminated will actually rise if you told someone "i have micheal jackson sydrome" or disorder. Although a talented and influential artist he was not a very good flagship for us vittie people. Just my opinion though....
    • Lucy, I had the same thought when I saw the interview he did with Oprah and another interview. He avoids talking about it and changes the subject. I also wondered if he ever donated to any Vitiligo Foundations too. When a person is a celebrity of his status, it would have been nice if he could have educated the public about vit. I have my doubts. I guess it really doesn't matter if he had it or not.
  • This is just an awesome idea. I think that if more people knew about the disease, researchers and scientists would have a much easier time getting grants and sponsors to help them conduct studies and possibly invent newer and more effective treatments. It would be a win-win situation for everyone.

I wish you the best of luck getting the right people to listen to your proposal. Keep us posted on this.
