For those who use sunlight therapuetically...

Hi all.  New here.  Nice forum, nice people.

I've read that vit B-12, plus folic acid, plus sunlight can help re-pigment.  I'm very interested in trying this.

Question I have is - since we have no protection against sunburn, how much sunlight is enough for therapeutic purposes?  10 min a day?  15 min a day?  Also, will using sunblock nullify the therapeutic effects of the sun?

Just a little more about me, I was diagnosed with vit in late July of this year, so just a couple of months now.  Have been using a combo of Chloderm and Protopic twice a day, but so far have been avoiding the sun or going out with 100 SPF.  Still trying to get insurance to approve excimer laser, so hopefully will start that soon.  I'm trying to attack this from all angles.

Anyway, thanks, and nice to meet you all.

  • Hey, thanks everyone.

For me, late afternoon sun would be more convenient, as I have to work early, when the sun is either too low or not yet out.

I'll refrain from sunblock while getting the exposure, and I'll use common sense so as not to burn.

  • My doctor says - before 08.00 !!! For about 60 minutes !!! Nearer to 08.00 the sun is stronger and if I feel skin "burn" I stop for the day, even before 08.00 - and start again the next day !!! Sun block ......... may be on non-vitiligo areas that get exposed.
    • It is difficult to tell about time it depands which part of the world you live ..latitude and altitude afects the power of the sun . ..use commen sense....don`t burn.

Normally morning and late afternon sun is good for about 10 -20 minits. for over all health .

Vitamin D3 is sunshine vitamin which is important for good health.

      • when you live in the North of England you are lucky to get 10-20mins per week...LOL...so I take what I can get when I can and use common sense not to burn
  • early morning sunlight is so good for our body, together with b-12 and folic,i can see little repigmentation but continous...my vitiligo is almost 8yrs old now..and only now i see a little hope of cure...
    • Okay early morning. For How long? Do you just expose until you're on the burn threshold? Also do you use sunblock?
      • 20 minutes exposure is enough,between 6-8 am...i dont use any sunblock.
