I used Protopic for about five months and no pigment came back. During this time many new white spots started on my arms and back. I am taking lots of B vitamins and eating a basic vegetarian det. You can’t drink while on Protopic because it gives your face a painful itchy red flush, very noticeable. I decided to discontinue it because there were zip point zero results and many new patches. I was very disappointed with this, and also sad that my vit is proceeding up my back and arms I think to my neck and face. I’d do anything to keep it off my face. Any suggestions?
ive been using protopic for almost a year and have almost gotten all the pigment back on my face, my face was almost 40 percent white when i started the treatment, i got more color back when it is sunny out, in the summer i noticed the biggest change. take a multivitamin daily and eat pretty healthy, not sure if that helps but it couldnt hurt.

Vincent:
One question. Do you by chance have vit in the ear ? Probably not !.
Just like you, we experienced good success with protopic on the eyelid for my 9 year old. After 6 months, we completely stopped Protopic. It's almost 1.5 years now, did not return as of yet.
But, it reurned in the ears a couple of months ago. Pretty aggressive start really . We began protopic application on Mar 2. It looked like the rapid progress decreased a couple of weeks ago. Today, when I saw the ears, i noticed very bright whitish ears. As usual, our depression returned, the moment we saw.....Had to read multiple threads on this forum to re-energize and re-motivate.
Depression is so weird...it comes so quickly. Takes hours/days/weeks to become normal. We are keeping our hopes high.....Nathan.
I have consumed folic acid in tablet form for a while and it seems to make me more resistant to sun.
Has started my own projects going on that I will recover my pigmentation from sun throughout the year. In Sweden we have short summers so the pigment never have time to wake up. Can report now, that after 4 months have become my white spots dotted by new pigments and also some small new has arisen. We'll see how it unfolds:)
I have been using protopic on my face for two weeks and have not noticed any results yet. I have, however, been doing significant research on various vitiligo treatments and immunosuppressants like protopic do not have a high success rate in re-pigmenting the skin. Protopic's main success would be in arresting the spread of vitiligo in the area you are treating. It seems that the UVB therapy in considered cutting edge treatment at this time for re-pigmentation. I also discovered a site for a non-drug treatment than can be used with the UVB lamp and which will not interfere with the immune suppressing action of protopic. It is called Novitil. You can read up on it at http://www.dermabest.com/products.aspx?type=1&pID=1.
Since I have hyperpigmentation (mylasma) in some areas of my face and the vitiligo in others, I will use an spf 50 on the hyperpigmented areas and the protopic and novitil on the others with UVB therapy.

Puva light helped, only during the treatment and
sunlight only give me more spots.

I'll keep you posted on how it works.
