Dr's office this AM

Went to a new Dr's office this AM to start Xtract treatments again.  I had been going somewhere else, but due to a change in careers was not going as often.  I noticed at this new place that the girls doing my Xtract seemed a little inexperienced, so I asked a few questions.  Oh and the new Doc LEFT my pics and records at home from my old Doc and had NO IDEA what number to start me out on the machine!!  (what a great experience you say???)  well it gets even better i.e.:

Me:  so does your office see a lot of vit patients??
Medical Assist:  Yes, but not for Xtract.
Me: oh, what do they have done??
Med Assist: oh, (shrugs shoulders), nothing,  they just DEAL WITH IT!!

OK, I can't even express in words how crappy that made me feel.  Should I too JUST DEAL WITH IT?? Should I sit back and not assist in trying to raise funds to try and find a cure??  Should there not be a site called "vitiligo friends" where this is the only place I can vent something like this and not worry about someone telling me to just "deal with it"??  Needless to say, I needed to vent and will not be going back to that Dr's office!!

  • yeah, i'd be out of there... and write a harsh letter explaining why... find another dem. good luck. there are docs with hearts.
    • Wow, I can't believe it. Well maybe I do because we live in a " me " world. My dad was diagnosted with a grade 4 Glioblastoma a few yrs ago and as he layed in the ICU after brain surgery and we just found out he had around 5-6 months to live( he was only 52) the Oncologist walks in and says to me and my sisters" Your dad has the worst possibly cancer and not much we can do sorry" and walks out. My one sister actually threw up, I walked out of the room found the dr down the hallway and said" If you ever talk to me or anyone else in my family like that again you are going to have a big problem on your hands, And if that was your dad I am sure you would have more compassion and maybe try something!!" well needless to say he never came back and we had his partner. So hang in there and hopefully you can find a new doc.
      • That's just disgusting, Bill.
And it's a shame that the occasional bad apple can spoil the cart of what are otherwise very kind professionals.
My new doctor made me cry, and not in a bad way! You know it's time to re-evaluate things when it occurs to you that despite years of therapy and counseling and having gone through countless doctors and specialists, no one had ever looked at me and asked, "How do you feel about this?"
        • AMEN! You found a good one!
      • wow... bill, u have amazing self control. if that was me they would of been picking up that doctors teeth from the hallway.
as i've learn with dealing with my moms illnesses.... one doctors shortcomings and lack of knowledge has noting to do with the rest of the medical profession. some doctors are hide bound to only doing so much work. now out looking for new alternatives and other choices.
sucks that some people are suckered into believing that because they're doctors they must know it all. only doctors think they're gods. dont let them trick u into believing it, theyre just human... feel no qualms about getting 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th opinions....
  • Ugh. Doctors like this disgust me.
I avoided seeing a dermatologist for 15 years because of a similar experience. The doctor told me- a then pre-teen girl with all ready low self esteem- to just put on my big girl shoes and deal, because there is no cure. Went home and cried for 12 hours!!!
Yeah. While my new doc is much more kind than the previous doc, the new doc is not only completely incompetent, but I question his motives (like most docs, he would prefer cash-only cosmetic procedures).
So I'm seeing a new one on Tuesday. Hoping that since she is a friend of the in-laws that she won't brush off my feelings or try to take advantage of my wallet.
