I was diagnosed at birth and now I am almost 25. My parents and I have searched high and low for something or anything to recover my spots. I tried puva theapory (Which made me sick) Pills which I still take, exposing me to the sun and eating certain foods. Does any one have the same cycle in life? And if so what are you trying or have done?

  • Unfortunatly, I made the mistake of letting my Vit run my life. I never dated. I did not do many of the things in life that I would have done if I hadn't had Vit. I always felt shame & inferior to everyone else. Now I'm middle age & I regret it so much. I deal with my Vit so diffrently now, but that is because I became a Christian. I still struggle with it though sometimes, but I live my life now.
My best advice to you is to NOT let it stop you from doing or being anything you want to do or become. There is no reason to not live our lives because of Vit. Although sometimes that is easier said then done, the bottom line is this. Most people will not care about your Vit. They will just accept you & treat you like anyone else. I used to worry so much about what people thought, and as I have grown older I have realized most people just dont make it an issue. I made it an issue more then they did, that is why I regret it so much now. I'm not saying it's easy to do, you need to be strong & not feel ashamed of who you are. Plus, if your a real nice & kind person, people will love you regardless of your Vit, because that is more important to most people, the type of person you are on the inside. It sounds cliche, but it is true. This is my view based on my life exp. I do hope that you live your life to the fullest. And like Myriah said, we are not suffering with a deadly disease, so go out and enjoy life. Best wishes to you & God Bless.
  • I was diagnosed at age 5, it will hit people at all different times in our lives. Kelli-Ann, your life shouldn't revolve around your spots, embrace them and start living your life. We aren't suffering from a life threatening illness, we are (for the most part) healthy and beautiful!
  • i think i got Vitiligo when i was 17 , it was a huge thing for a teenager to deal with , when i finished high-school the puva treatment controlled my life , not my night life of course lol
if you feel sick with those pills you need to drink milk after taking them that what the doc told me , and i think the puva pills should never be sued for a long period of time ...
  • Kelli-Ann, you may want to just go back and read some of the forums and comments made here previously. You may find what ur looking for discussed already in detail!
