Dermatologist

Just curious to know if anyone here has found a vitiligo "specialist" and how did you find them?  If you have, what city and state are they located and why would you recommend them?  I think it would be nice to have a listing of caring dermatologists. Thanks for your help!

  • Well this might not be very helpful but there is a vitiligo specialist in Osaka Japan. I went there and he has a UVB light machine and it's powerful that it only takes a few seconds for the light to hit the white areas because it's stronger than a regular home UVB system! I don't go there anymore, instead I have my own UVB light system.
  • i found a doctor on the national vitiligo foundation website (http://nvfi.org/directory/). if you are in the washington d.c. area i recommend dr. rebat halder. i'm not seeing him regularly but found both him and his staff to be supportive. my location is such that it's not feasible for me to see him regularly for treatment, so he had his staff research dermatologists in my area who accept my insurance and provide the treatment plan he recommended. not too many doctors would bother with that!

jeff, now that thy found bin laden i hope you find a good specialist ;-)

  • a vitiligo "specialist"...you'd have better luck finding Bin Laden
    • Jeff, you are too funny!!
      • It is sad to say,but there is not an specialist on vitiligo, and dermatologist seems no to care about vitiligo. My four year son has it and I'm beyond angry because there nothing to do about it, thanks god he is getting all white and I think before seven he is going to be only one color, this is debasteiring because a child doesn't understand "why" I don't know what I'm going to tell him when he start asking about it :( I just hope somebody would get serious about vitiligo and find some cure! For now the dermatologist told me to be patient (sadly) I can't ! He is a beautiful boy, blond and blue eyes! I feel so bad!
    • Ha!  Thanks for the laugh, I sure needed that!  I understand there is no such "specialist," but maybe there is a dermatologist that is up to date on the current research or doing their own research and someone on this site here would highly recommend them.  I am hopeful!
