Hey everyone!
I'm clearly new here but I'm liking the site thus far.
I know for me, I would be more comfortable with my body (duh, i think everyone would be)! I've wanted to audition for a few jobs that require a heavy emphasis on good skin and I know that's out of the question unless I want to be bathe from head to toe in coverup lol..
So to answer the topic at hand: what would you be doing differently had vitiligo not been a concern for you?

Olaying volley ball....dancing in the summer with softness and my arms ....tighing my hair in a pony tail if I am wearing a tank top and my underarms are exposed. Now i am an adult and I learned to deal with it. :)
I'm so sorry you weren't able to do that Tanga. :( That's horrible...
I used to play softball myself, and loved it and was pretty good at it. I so miss being able to do that...:( I thought about finding an adult team here in my town a couple of years ago, but this has prevented me from pursuing it, for obvious reasons (could never imagine being on a sunny field for two hours or more)...:( the sun on my face and spots for that length of time is just not an option anymore..
so very true, it's such a shock when you realize how much really changes in your lifestyle, what you are able to do, etc. once you have this. And the sun? I am literally SCARED of it now, lol, honestly..it is NOT my friend anymore, I do miss it though.
hi Tina
I'm agree with you your comment is the same my think.
People love go to sea in the summer, take sun and come back to work with tan, all think is fantastic.
When I go to sea first think is I do not want tan, better is stay under the umbrella, when I come back to work, the first think is cover the spots.
Now I prefer the winter, my skin is white and vitiligo is less visible
being free to job search in any field that I want (specifically my most recent field, which is corporate/white collar). I am very self-conscious as any type of florescent lighting (most offices have this) makes my vit more noticable and is very uncomfortable for me, even with my constant makeup experimentation, etc. It always look great when I leave the house but horrible under bright artificial lighting. Also, I am currently working part-time in retail in a VERY VERY brightly lit store that hides nothing and I hate how awful those lights are, it makes me stress all the the time. I have recently taken to wearing my reading glasses (which hurt my eyes) while I am there, as the majority of the vit is under and near my eyes. At least it feels kind of like a 'safety" net and I am not as self-concsious while there. Although I hate how I look in glasses but it's a trade-off I guess. :(
Eileen, very true, NOBODY looks great under very bright florescent lights and I try very hard to remember that all the time! Although nobody who doesn't has this would ever understand how much harder it is to endure for people like us that do have it. If that makes any sense.
And Heather hon, try to do what you are doing and not let it bother you so much although I totally get how hard it can be to do just that! My daughter is only three years younger than you are, and I am constantly telling her to forget superficial people and "their" concept of what is acceptable and what is not. You know what that little girl tells me back? "Mom if someone is THAT judgemental and shallow over you having this, then the heck with them!" And she's right hon...hold tight you really seem like a very intelligent young woman and you are very beautiful to boot. :) But Eileen stated it best!
Taking pictures, although I am getting better, wearing short sleeved shirts or going sleeveless and wearing dressess that show too much of my back...Funny I never care about my legs or feet so much.
