has anyone tried cover fx? i'm trying to find something to cover hyperpigmentation as well because i have a dark outline around my vitiligo from the uvb light.
Alright ladies...I found something wonderful! and wanted to share it with you!!
It's a product at ORGINS (which is a makeup skincare line that has natural and organic products)...it's the VitaZing SPF 15 it's an energy-boosting moisturizer with mangosteen...you don't even need foundation when you use this product and I always wear a foundation because I'm so fair..this stuff makes your skin glow from the inside out!!! I didn't believe it...the girl gave me samples and I tried it, and I went back to purchase it today!!! You can find Orgins online or inside most Dillard's department stores!
Alex you are beautiful! You look like my friend Kristen who models for fun and is a teacher! She was Miss Florida! You two could pass as sisters! I will have to send you a pic of her....Anyway, you really like dermablend, I've heard it's really thick...but I will check it out! Do you use dermablend on your face?
I was a big fan of dermablend. But got tired of mixing 2 foundations. I have switched to f/x foundation from Sephora. I then blend it with high definition powder, also from Sephora. I love the smoothness of the creme foundation without the thick makeup look. It's a little more than the $28 bottle from MAC. But they have a whole line of foundations to body cover up that I love.
To start, what is your complexion like? I'm assuming that's you in your profile picture? :) I have relatively fair skin and I've had pretty good success covering the spots on my face. To echo the other posters, MAC offers great makeup, and I also love Makeup Forever sold at Sephora, though both can be costly. I try my best to find drugstore makeup that will work. Not really to save money, but it gives me peace of mind knowing that should I run out of something or my luggage gets lost, a CVS or Target is always nearby (vs. ordering online or hoofing it to the mall with the kids for more product).
Depending on the extent of your vitiligo, I have a few suggestions. I have large spots around my eyes and also on my forehead. I use Revlon Colorstay liquid foundation in the lightest shade they offer. I then use a stick concealer (various brands) or Makeup Forever Camoflague Cream to fill-in and blend my spots. Next I very lightly apply some powder bronzer on the vitiligo spots then apply bronzer where one would normally apply, cheekbones, bridge of nose, etc. I then set my face with loose powder. After that I add any additional bronzer or blush as needed. I think the biggest thing (at least for me) is when choosing foundation is to go a little lighter than you think you need. Its so much easier to blend the spots with concealer when you use a lighter foundation. Adding a little bronzer or blush can darken/brighten up your face if needed once you've got everything covered.
Finally, if you have minimal spots or if your spots are close to your natural color, Almay Smart Shade is a fantastic product. I don't know how it works, but it really does match your natural color well - just be sure to start the blending process on your pigmented skin to activate the color and then blend over the white areas. My spots are too large for this to really be effective at concealing my spots, but I think it could work great for someone with less extensive vitiligo. When I need to get out of the house quickly (I won't leave home without makeup) I will use the Almay and then quickly fill in my spots with concealer, add sunglasses and I'm good to go! I probably wouldn't use it to go out to dinner or to meet up with friends, but its good enough for carpool or a run to the grocery store. Good luck in your makeup adventures. :)
Hey Brandy! Yes, that's me and my family! I am very fair! I honestly think I've had vitiligo for a couple years....I kept noticing in the car mirror the lines of white taking over...but I thought it was the light...I even mentioned it to my doctor over a year ago I thought maybe I had skin cancer on my nose because my skin was changing and making shapes...I think they thought I was being paranoid...they didn't listen to me...so I went to the dermatologist twice and was like my skin is changing I can tell...then it appeared on my leg (it's spreading alright) that's when I was diagnosed when it appeared on my leg (it just looks like a birth mark for now)...but at least on my face I am very fair so I think it's easier for me to cover it! I am in the purple shirt...I know I just keep getting lighter...
Thanks for the make up tips! I am going to try MAC...and the almay! I love makeup..I guess it's because I have to wear scrubs to work makeup is the one thing I can change...plus I want to age gracefully by taking care of myself! I love sephora!!!! It's one of my favorite stores!!!! I will let you know how I like the makeup! ;)
i was searching around on the internet and i found Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer! It is for covering up tattoos but people have used it on their vitiligo and apparently it is amazing! this product has great reviews for covering up tattoos so it must be good for vitiligo too. you can get it at Sephora so i'll definitely buy it when i get back to Canada :) but for now i'll try out the MAC prolongwear!
Ladies I found an old forum with makeup tips (that's how I found this group...but I can't find her on here?...go figure)...but, I bought what she suggested (she models)... it's concealer Max Factor Pan-Stik in true beige they are 7.99 (I bought five of them and I love it). They are discontinuing the pan-stik. I had to buy it online no longer available in stores. She said she has tried everything from $5 to $100 and that the pan-stik has a color that reflects the color we lose? I really like it...I have vitiligo on my face and since it's summer I am just using it where I need it. She also suggested the best foundation for anyone is Armani! I'm going to try it also!
I personally like Laura Mercier they have a tinted moisture that's illuminating lightweight flawless coverage...I always get compliments when I wear it!!! I use it as foundation!
Also, Vctoria Secret has a bronzer/highter trio that makes my skin glow and look beautiful! It's less than $20.00.
