Beautiful Differences in Pigmentation

A while back, someone on this forum said that hopefully one day people will see vitiligo spots as another part of nature's beauty ... in the same way zebra stripes or panda paws are beautiful. That comment has stayed with me.

Today, I found an article about a cow that was born with the pigmentation of a panda. I love it! Beautiful. The "panda-cow" is a prized possession.

  • I've got a project idea for this... :)  It's a little on the back-burner because of a job-related issue, but I've got in mind a way for us to manifest some pride in our appearance--or to gain some if we're lacking.  A public website for Vitiligo Awareness (we've been talking about this for a while) where those who are comfortable can post a video or photo to show our unique beauty and help others, both with and without Vitiligo, be more comfortable with the variety of appearances that we have!
    • What would be great is if this were done with a quality photo campaign. Like I have a friend with HIV. He and other people with HIV were photographed by a famous photographer to coincide with HIV Awareness Day. My friend even got to speak in public besides the mayor of London. There's got to be a fashion designer who either has vitiligo or knows someone who does who would want to help.
    • That is a great idea, Steve.  I have been doing something very similar with my blog, Mosaic Life Online, http://mosaiclifeonline.blogspot.com/I promote positive living, physically and emotionally.  Vitiligo Friends does this, except you have to join.  The Vitiligo Awareness website would require no membership to view pictures or videos, hence being public and focusing only on the beauty of the condition.  Would you say that is the primary differentiating appeal? I am all for anything that sheds a positive light on Vitiligo and helps those with it be comfortable with our appearance.  I look forward to visiting the site, so keep us posted.

Thank you for being so positive!

  • Thanks for sharing. I tell my little daughters that these are maps that God put on our bodies so that we would never get lost.
    • Nice. I like that. I'll have to remember that one.
      • Beautiful.  I see polka dot designs. I love the maps, Sudipto.
        • That really is fantastic Sudipto the more I think about it. You should be like member of the month (if we had such a thing. Steve, ya listenting?) for that.
          • Thanks. I'd love to be member of the month ;)
  • Alexander, before others can see vitiligo as another part of nature's beauty, we must first see ourselves that way. When my "vit" first started spreading, it moved fast. I hated to see myself in a full mirror because I didn't recognize me. Now, it does not bother me. I often refer to my "vit" as my body art. I love the nature's beauty analogy. I am so happy to connect with others with vitiligo that see themselves in a positive light thanks to this forum.
